When I worked as a psychologist, one of the first things I realised was that it’s not unusual for a client to present with a problem only to find the actual problem was about something else entirely. It happens 🤷♀️
And over the years since, working as a business mentor, same thing. For example, one beautiful client I still work with today, came to me for help increasing revenue. She thought there may be strategies around it she’d needed. But that wasn’t really the problem.
What had happened was that she had somewhat forgotten about herself amidst the busy-ness of focusing on her clients. As a result, her work felt more challenging, she felt more uncomfortable as the financial pressure pressed down on her plus she was sheer exhausted working long hours.
Early in our work together, I started guiding her little by little so she could unearth herself again. I wanted her to bring the qualities she’d been hiding away out into the light. Initially she was probably wondering where I was going with it but in the end, she was sharing all kinds of things - one of her biggest secret desires was to have fun at work yet fun had been something she simply hadn’t allowed herself (not professional to have fun 🙃)
Fast forward twelve months and she’s increased her annual revenue by 50%, sees fewer clients than before, loves her work so much now that it’s fun (but also because she’s able to be herself!) and she is booked months in advance with clients for her practice due to demand.
This is one of the reasons I don’t automatically assume a business problem requires a business strategy. Sometimes what appears to be a revenue problem is being created or maintained by something happening at the level of psychology, identity or behaviour. Change that, and the business results can change too 💖✨
I’m going to be sharing more about how to use psychology to manifest results like this in business do if you’d like to join in the conversation, meet me there 💖 I’ll pop the link in the comments
