Many organisations dodge the question of remote working by saying, “What we do can’t be done online.”

And for many industries, this is true.

But how about an airport? 🛫

Dubai International airport has recently introduced hybrid working for more than 2,000 employees.

It’s even used hybrid working to carry out major maintenance and improvement works on its train systems, airfield and buildings - by virtually connecting the engineers and technicians in Dubai with experts from Mitsubishi in Japan.

There’s a lot to consider when planning a hybrid meeting. They’re often trickier to manage than their in-person counterparts.

What you do before and after the meeting is more important than what you do during the meeting. Especially if it’s an important session or has lots of attendees.

Here are our five top tips for planning great hybrid meetings:

1️⃣ Think about focus, outcomes and engagement (FOE) - minimise everyone’s cognitive load so they can focus and be present; optimise your session to create high-quality outcomes; and think about how you can best maximise attendee engagement.

2️⃣ Create an atmosphere of psychological safety, where there’s no such thing as ‘wrong’ and people are free to learn from their mistakes.

3️⃣ Ensure everyone is set up with the right devices and digital solutions. Easy to overlook, but vital for team cohesion! Keep a list of recommended/approved tools.

4️⃣ Reduce ad-hoc meetings and calendar clutter by setting up a cadence of recurring meetings.

5️⃣ Relieve tension and easily navigate situations with pre-prepared ‘icebreaker’ questions and activities
