I really enjoyed chatting with Josh from The Afters! Especially about how his favourite restaurant is in Melbourne. That didn't make the cut of the article, but the Tim Tams did!

12 months ago The Afters were in Australia on a national tour. Where did they go and what did they get up to? Are they still addicted to Tim Tams?

Australian Christian Records has ‘The Aussie Interview’ co-published with the Canberra Declaration.

Music is about community. And challenging each other to go further in creativity and excellence. Writing this story was so inspiring because I got to talk to amazing people in the industry who believe that music connects people to each other. There may also have been a few fan-girly moments....

I worked with young people in education for over 20 years. The increasing youth mental health crisis remains one of my deepest concerns. As a musician, I believe in the power of music-making to bring healing to the soul. For this reason, I appreciated the opportunity to write about Testify, a local church initiative that gives young performers a platform and young people space to share about their mental wellbeing. Plus jazz funk is cool.

It was upsetting to hear last week that The Melbourne Anglican has been shut down after 175 years of continuous publication.

I only worked there a year, but it was a wonderful experience, with incredible colleagues. I'll be sharing some of my stories from that time over the next few weeks. This one is the one I mention when people ask me what story sticks with me the most. It was my first experience interviewing an offshore refugee. I felt helpless during that call - what could I really do to help this man and his family? I learned that being heard and having someone tell your story when you can't is a powerful thing.

It also developed my interest in trauma-informed journalism: both in terms of the vicarious trauma experienced by journalists, but also, how can journalists ask questions and receive powerful stories without compounding the trauma of those they interview?
