We hope everyone had a great long weekend, and good news that restrictions are easing!
Keeping up to date with security is something we, at amisIT, take very seriously. Every now and then we hear a rumour / story or report how new tech has been hacked or used for malicious and potentially dangerous reasons that can lead people getting hurt or worse.
We heard that people are using tracking devices to stalk people – as we all have seen some type of spy/action film/s and know that the technology is out there. So what’s changed?
Usually commercially available tracking devices work on range / distance, the cost to get good tracking gear is not cheap or as easily accessible.
However, in this day and age you can pick up things like MyTag which has a 60km radius, is the size of a credit card and approx. $250 aud, or cheaper still you can buy an AirTag from apple for approx. $30 aud.
We did some research and found a couple of interesting articles who break down the security of the AirTag and how easily it has been hacked.

Our take on this? If you’re out, check your person, pockets and bags to make sure nothing has been placed on or with you you. If you do find a device please go straight to the police. Its always better to be safe than sorry.
Keep your eyes peeled, next week we introduce our Director of Technology - Michael Counsell and the rest of the team.
