Often the issue isn’t getting more work. It’s what’s happening on the jobs you already have — quoting too tight, jobs running over, variations not being charged, too much rework or simply not knowing which jobs are making decent money.

Before chasing more sales, it’s worth getting a clear picture of what your current work is actually producing.

Customers remember the job, but they also remember everything around it.

Was the quote easy to understand?

Did someone confirm when you were coming?

Did the team turn up when expected?

Were changes explained?

Did the invoice match what they were expecting?

You can do excellent work and still leave a customer frustrated because the experience around the job wasn’t great.

Sometimes improving customer service has less to do with the work itself and more to do with tightening up the process around it.

A trade business can be profitable on paper and still feel constantly short of cash.

You’ve paid wages, materials and suppliers, but you’re still waiting to be paid for work completed weeks ago.

That gap matters, particularly as the business gets bigger.

If revenue is growing but cash always feels tight, it’s worth looking at how quickly you invoice, your payment terms and how much cash each job needs before the customer pays you.

Growth needs cash to fund it.

Compliance is one of those things that’s easy to assume is under control… until someone actually checks.

Licences. Training records. SWMS. Insurances. Vehicle checks. Employee documentation. Site paperwork.

As the team grows, keeping track of it all gets harder.

It’s worth having one place where you can see what’s current, what’s expiring and who is responsible for it.
