Tomorrow at 8:00am, at polling places across Australia, the doors will open.

Tomorrow, you have a decision to make.

A decision that is not just about who will run the country for the next three years.

A decision that is not just about who will be the Prime Minister to rule the country.

This election is so much more than that.

Right now, while we are in a better position when it comes to the rights of LGBTIQA+ folks here in Australia, there will be a push to derail and cause chaos just like we have seen in the US and the UK.

We have released an official statement on the website, with our thoughts on what we are up against:

The Cecilia Rucker Group (CECERG) has put together a Voter Safety guide and a list of polling place locations in the Whitlam, Eden-Monaro and Hume electorates for election day.

"I think it's very disappointing to hear that no candidates from Hume or Whitlam have signed up to the Trans Justice Project pledge, let alone, now staying silent when it comes to LGBTIQA+ people across the electorate."

The Whitlam and Hume electorates have been dealt with a major blow just two days out until election day.

Not-for-profit organisation, the Trans Justice Project, which advocates for transgender and gender diverse people and collaborates with the community to raise awareness of trans and gender diverse has released the final numbers of its Trans Justice Pledge campaign, with over 172 candidates in this year's federal election, showing their commitment to improve the lives and livelihoods of trans and gender diverse people.

While one candidate in the Eden-Monaro electorate has committed to the pledge, the Hume and Whitlam candidates have not shown their support to the pledge.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Cecilia Rucker Group (CECERG), Cecilia Rucker has expressed her disappointment over the candidates in Hume and Whitlam not committing to the pledge.

Check out our media release here for more information:

With postal voting applications now closed for the 2025 Australian Federal Election and early voting ending on Friday at 6:00pm, the Cecilia Rucker Group (CECERG) has released a guide to polling place locations across the Whitlam, Eden-Monaro, and Hume electorates.

As LGBTIQA+ electors prepare to go to the polls on Saturday, there will be an increased focus on voter safety and security, especially among the transgender and gender diverse electors.

CECERG has also provided some tips to how to vote on election day as your true, authentic self, and advice for LGBTIQA+ allies help our Pride & Diverse communities cast their vote safely:

With the federal election now only four days away, the Cecilia Rucker Group (CECERG) has announced today that they will be visiting the Goulburn Mulwaree region, including the Eden-Monaro electorate on election day. (May 3rd)

Cecilia and her team will drop by some of the polling places across the region, including the Tallong Memorial Hall for a democracy sausage (to be announced/confirmed) and to chat with residents.

This will also mark the first time since Cecilia left Tallong in 2016 that she has visited the Memorial Hall polling place on election day since she returned to the Southern Highlands and the Whitlam electorate.

Full details, including a story on how Cecilia and the Goulburn Mulwaree region grew up together is available in the media release below on our website:

Despite the first signs of the Capital Country winter beginning to settle in and the chaotic state of the world with events, including a federal election campaign, thousands of residents and visitors across the Southern Highlands attended ANZAC Day services.

In Mittagong, both the Dawn and Main Services were well attended with numbers exceeding previous years.

The Cecilia Rucker Group (CECERG) attend both services in Mittagong today to provide support for the LGBTIQA+ community and to ensure trouble was kept to minimum.

Official Statement from the Cecilia Rucker Group (CECERG)

The Cecilia Rucker Group (CECERG) sends its best wishes and thoughts to one of our proud service personnel.

At the Mittagong ANZAC Day Dawn Service this morning, just before The Last Post and the minute silence, a lively gentleman, who proudly served for our country, collapsed and took a bit of a knock.

NSW Fire & Rescue personnel from Mittagong and attendees went to the aid of the gentlemen almost immediately and stayed with them until the ambulance arrived.

Check out the official statement on our website here for more details:

As the first week of the early voting period for the 2025 Australian Federal Election draws to a close, there has been a sharp increase in incidents at pre-polling centres across the country.

Incidents at early voting centres in Ashfield and Macquarie Park in Sydney and a gatecrashing incident at an election forum in Kooyong in Melbourne have raised serious concerns about voter safety, including LGBTIQA+ enrolled voters.

While on a local level, there have been little incidents reported in the Whitlam, Eden-Monaro and Hume electorates during pre-polling so far, but, Cecilia has raised some concerns that a similar thing could happen in the local polling places.

As the remnants of Easter start to be put away for another year, with the last of the hot cross buns and easter eggs being consumed or stored in a cool place, the folks at the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) are getting ready for the commencement of early voting for the Australian Federal Election.

The early voting period, which runs from today and will continue until May 2nd, will give voters a chance to cast their ballot before election day if they have a valid reason to do so.

But, for the LGBTIQA+ community as a whole, including an estimated one million Pride & Diverse enrolled electors, the early voting period could cause some safety and security issues with recent events, such as the UK Supreme Court decision.

Cecilia has encouraged and urged LGBTIQA+ identifying voters to act with a degree of caution and to practice safety and security during the pre-poll period and on election day.

Check out our latest media release here:

"It is, in my own personal opinion, and after conducting a risk assessment, now too dangerous to vote in person on election day or via pre-poll as your true, authentic self."

Well....

It's going to be a while before we can vote in a polling place on election day as our true, authentic selves.

While our words on our latest media release may sound a bit over the top, the reality is, now, more than ever, especially after the UK Supreme Court decision yesterday, that this election campaign has gone from simple jabs to literally, full on hate and hatred.

I'd never thought we would be saying that, and we have seen many an election at all levels and never anything like this.

So hence, for my own safety and the polling officials at the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC), a postal vote was applied for on the day the election was called.

On Wednesday, our Chief Executive Officer, formally cast her ballot and mailed it back to the AEC.

We provided a little more context and gone into a little more detail on the current situation, in the lead up to pre poll period opening next week on the website:

“Cecilia casts her vote in the 2025 Australian Federal Election, advises LGBTIQA+ enrolled voters to exercise caution as early voting begins”

In light of the news from the UK this morning involving the court ruling on transgender and gender diverse people, and to ensure the health and safety of our team, the Cecilia Rucker Group (CECERG) and its subsidiaries will be starting their Easter break a little bit earlier than first planned.

We know this is not the news that many of our customers and supporters were expecting, but, we feel, now, more than ever, that the ongoing situation with the election campaign here in Australia and now this devastating news this morning, this is starting to affect the health and safety of our team.

Our phone lines are now closed and will reopen from 8:00am AEST on Tuesday 22nd April.

If you require any urgent assistance via our advocacy services or to report any minor incidents in the community during the closedown period which involve our community, you can contact us on our after-hours line, which is included on our closedown page below:

The Cecilia Rucker Group (CECERG) and it’s subsidaries (RJRTV & SpectraAble) will be taking a earlier than usual Easter break.
