The secret’s out… we’re growing Christmas trees! 🎄

We’ve planted our very first crop of baby Christmas trees right here at Barney Creek — the beginning of something we hope will become a very special part of Christmas in the Scenic Rim.

But you won’t have to wait for these little guys to grow…

We’ll be sharing much more very soon about this year’s trees, how collection will work and when bookings open.

Why did we remove our vineyard? 🍇

For almost 20 years, grapevines have been part of the landscape here at Barney Creek.

But farming is never static, and over those two decades the weather conditions here have changed. Seasons have become increasingly unpredictable, and the conditions that once allowed us to grow grapes successfully simply haven’t been as favourable in recent years.

And it certainly wasn’t because we couldn’t grow beautiful grapes.

One of our proudest moments was working with our winemaker to create Charis from grapes grown right here at Barney Creek. We produced just 500 bottles — and that little batch went on to win three awards. 🏆🍷

The quality was there. The problem was quantity.

Year after year, weather damage meant we were losing too much of the crop to make continuing the vineyard feasible.

So after almost 20 years of vines growing on this hillside, we made the difficult decision to remove them and make space for the next chapter of Barney Creek. 🤎

We’re incredibly proud of what was grown here and everything the vineyard has been part of over the years.

But sometimes farming means adapting to the land, the seasons and what they’re telling you.

And while the vines might be gone…

we have something new planned for those rows. 👀🌱

Over the past 12 months, we’ve been making lots of changes here on the farm and creating space for a whole new chapter.

After many years of growing grapes, we’ve made the decision to say goodbye to our vineyard. It’s a little bittersweet watching the vines come out, but we’re incredibly excited about what’s taking their place — and everything else we have planned for Barney Creek.

Over the next few weeks, we’ll be taking you behind the scenes as our little corner of the Scenic Rim continues to transform.
