Most people walk into an interview thinking their job is just to answer questions, and they leave without finding out half of what they actually needed to know.

The questions you ask tell a hiring manager a lot about you, but they also hand you information you cannot get anywhere else.

Culture, onboarding, how they actually treat their people when things get hard.

Slide 2 is the one I always come back to. Ask it and watch what happens next.

If you want someone to help you prep, know which questions actually matter for the role you're going for, and have someone in your corner through the whole process, DM me OPEN and I'll reach out privately

Stop writing cover letters;most hiring managers in allied health don’t read them, especially when they sound generic.

What actually gets you a callback in under 10 seconds is this: candidates who ask the right questions: about the team, the support, and even why the last person left the role. Those are the people who stand out, because employers are desperately trying to hire people who stay.

The best roles in allied health are rarely the loudest.

They’re not always advertised everywhere.
They don’t always sit on job boards for long.

But they are happening right now, quietly.

If you’re a BSP, Psychologist, OT, or Speech Pathologist in Newcastle… I want to hear from you.

Did your workplace make you feel like the perfect hire at first?

“You’re exactly what we needed.”

Then 6 months later—double the workload, half the support.

No formal change. Just drift.

That’s workplace love bombing.

I have been in allied health recruitment for a while now and I am still regularly surprised by the range of what speechies, BSP’s and OT’s actually do on any given day.

One person is helping a toddler learn to eat without it being terrifying. Another is working out how to get someone safely in and out of their own shower. Someone else is supporting a teenager to manage emotions that feel completely out of control. And another is helping an adult with a brain injury relearn how to use a phone.

OTs, speechies, behaviour support practitioners, the variety inside these roles is something most people never see.

Drop what you do in the comments and let’s see the variety

That feeling deserves your attention.

You don’t have to be completely burnt out to recognise that something in your work environment no longer feels right.
Maybe it’s the constant changes.
Maybe it’s the lack of support.
Maybe work just feels heavier than it used to.

And while you may not be ready to make a career move yet, acknowledging those feelings matters.

Because staying aware of what drains you is just as important as knowing what helps you grow.

‼️Not all burnout looks dramatic.‼️

Sometimes it’s subtle.
You’re still performing. Still showing up. Still doing everything you’re supposed to do but something doesn’t feel right anymore...

In allied health and community care, it’s easy to ignore those feelings and push through them. But often, those small signs are worth listening to.
Because the right environment shouldn’t just keep you functioning, it should help you feel supported, valued, and able to grow.

Most people don’t leave when things get bad, they leave when they finally run out of reasons to stay.

And by that point they have spent months, sometimes years, explaining it away. Telling
themselves it is just a busy period, that every workplace is like this, that they should be grateful for what they have.

If you have been quietly asking yourself whether it is time to go, that question is worth taking seriously. Not because the answer is automatically yes, but because you deserve to actually think about it rather than push it back down and get on with the week.

Save this for the next time someone asks if you are okay and you say yes when you mean something else entirely.

If you are an OT, speechie, or BSP and this landed somewhere, DM me the word OPEN.

No upfront CV, no commitment, just a conversation.

What is one non-negotiable you have in a workplace?
