Do job interviews make you nervous? It's normal, but don't let your nerves stop you from showing employers why you're the best candidate for the job 🤝
Here are a few tips to help you prepare and break through the nerves:
🔵 Do your research
Research the business and the job. Get an understanding of their mission, values, products/services, and recent news. Know the job description inside out so you can tailor your answers to show you're a great fit.
🔵 Practice questions and answers
Avoid the mental blank moment and prepare answers for simple questions like “Tell me about yourself,” “What are your strengths/weaknesses?” and “Why do you want to work here?”. These questions are usually asked at the start of an interview and will build your confidence from the get go. This means rehearsing out loud!
🔵 Prepare examples
Providing practical examples demonstrates to employers HOW you work, not just what you say you can do. Use the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result) to structure your responses.
🔵 Have a 'we' mindset
In other words, how can you help them succeed? Talk about how you can contribute to the team or support company goals, not just what you want out of the job. Employers love a team player.
🔵 Show up with confidence
Make a positive lasting impression by introducing yourself as soon as you arrive in the interview room, acknowledg each panel member, maintain good posture, make eye contact and be present - it's easy for things to go in one ear and out the other when you're nervous. Take a notepad and pen to jot down important points and ask questions at the end. This shows you’re capable, prepared, and ready to take on the role.
