Camper Trailers Big or Small — Weigh Me RV South Coast Can Weigh Them All!

Did you know... you don’t need a massive caravan to run into weight issues. In fact, many single-axle camper trailers have very limited payload. Tow ball weight is a common issue with single axle, especially hybrid vans, which means they can become overweight faster than people realise.

There are a few brands we have come across that seem to offer a more decent payload from factory — Cruizy Campers Dingo for example— but unfortunately they’re the exception, not the rule. Most small or DIY campers are built tough which sounds great ( and personally, we love the look of them) but they're often built with heavy materials, and that can eat into your available payload quickly.

The good news? Sometimes the tow vehicle has enough spare payload to safely carry what the trailer can’t — but you won’t know unless you’ve had proper, accurate weights done.

Remember:
ATM – TARE = PAYLOAD
…but this only works if the numbers you’re using are correct — and compliance plates aren’t always perfect (that's a whole other kettle of fish!)

Weekend Weighs + A Quick Visit to See Borgy!

We had a solid weekend of weigh sessions at Nowra, and even managed to duck out and visit the legend himself, Borgy's - Weigh Me RV , founder of Weigh Me RV (and champion brother in law!), while he was out weighing rigs at WMRV's Narellan location. Always good catching up with him and talking all things weights, safety and summer-towing prep.

Here are a couple of the set-ups we weighed over the weekend:

🔵 Ford Ranger towing an Australian Offroad Matrix
Really well-presented touring combo — great to see these set up properly and ready for travel.

🔵 Subaru towing a Wotpod Off-Road Bosspod
Fun fact: Wotpods are one of the lightest Australian-built off-road pods on the market — tough outside, cosy inside, and surprisingly capable for their size!

Both owners (and other's we didn't get pics of! Too busy chatting!) left with clear, accurate reports and a better understanding of how their rigs behave on the road.
