What an incredible experience presenting our research at the Australian Council of TESOL Associations (ACTA) International TESOL Conference yesterday held at the University of Sydney! 🌏

Our session was well attended and it was so encouraging to hear such positive responses and comments about how exciting and important this research is!

I felt incredibly privileged to stand in that room and speak about our work on Translingual Yarning Pedagogies (TYP) and what this research can mean for the future of Noongar language revitalisation.

For me, this research is about more than developing a new pedagogical approach. It is about rethinking how we understand language revival and creating approaches that centre Aboriginal voices, knowledge, lived experiences and ways of learning.

Together, Sender and I are exploring new possibilities for how Noongar language can be reclaimed, taught and transmitted. And how we can challenge some of the traditional approaches to language education that have not always reflected Aboriginal ways of knowing and learning.

I am incredibly proud of the work we are doing and grateful to have the opportunity to contribute to research that can help shape the future of Noongar language education.

A huge thank you to everyone who attended our session, listened, asked questions and engaged so openly with the research.

And, of course, a very special thank you to Sender Dovchin for continuing this journey with me. It is a privilege to work alongside you.

Sometimes people know Yalkarang for one thing.

Our Noongar language programs.
Or our cultural consulting.
Or our community projects.

But Yalkarang has grown into something much broader.

We work across:

🤝 Community language and cultural programs

At the heart of all of this is the same purpose:
Creating opportunities for people to learn, connect and engage with Aboriginal culture in meaningful and respectful ways.

We work with organisations, businesses, schools, early learning centres, community organisations and events.

And we're continuing to grow.

Over the next few weeks, I'll be sharing more about the work we do, the projects we're involved in and some of the products and programs we're developing.

🌿 Donations & Sponsorships Wanted: Help us make the Dandjoo Noongar Waangkaniny: Moort Book Launch a special celebration 🌿

We are excited to be preparing for the formal launch of our Moort Book in November, a very special project celebrating language, culture, family and the knowledge shared by Elders in the Wadjak Northside Elders Group.

This project has been made possible by our Elders, who have generously shared their time, knowledge and stories. We now have an opportunity for local people, businesses and organisations to help us make the book launch a truly memorable occasion.

For the launch, we will be bringing together the Elders who have contributed their knowledge, along with their families, friends and special guests. Each participating Elder will receive a beautifully printed copy of the completed book as a lasting keepsake of their contribution.

We would love to provide some additional special touches on the day, including:
🌸 Native flowers or floral arrangements for our Elders
🎁 Small gifts or cultural appreciation gifts
🏆 Framed certificates recognising each Elder's contribution
🍽️ Catering and refreshments
🌿 Decorations and event styling
📚 Assistance towards printing additional copies of the book
🎁 Other thoughtful items that could help make the presentation special

🤝 We are seeking sponsorships, donations and in-kind support
