π€πβ€οΈ Survival Day π€πβ€οΈ
Today marks the beginning of colonisation on this continent, a day that brought immense trauma, loss of land, language, lives, and culture for Aboriginal people.
It is not a day of celebration. It is a day to reflect, to listen, and to acknowledge the ongoing impacts of invasion.
Survival Day recognises the strength and resilience of our people. Despite everything, our cultures, languages, and connections to Country continue. One of the oldest continuing cultures in the world... still here, still strong.
Check in on your family and friends, especially mob who may be carrying a lot today. Racist comments and the sharing of misinformation can be extremely harmful.
Choose respectful conversations. Continue educating others where you can, listen deeply, and lead with kindness.
While today is a day of mourning and reflection for my people, some choose to celebrate what Australia represents to them today and that is okay. Holding different truths with respect is part of moving forward together.
