Do you know if your employees are being paid correctly?

With Award increases taking effect from 1 July, now is a great time for employers to review their pay rates and employment arrangements.

One of the most common issues I come across isn't intentional underpayment. It's businesses relying on historical classifications, outdated pay rates, or assumptions that haven't been reviewed in years.

Getting it wrong can result in:
✔ Back pay claims
✔ Underpayment liabilities
✔ Employee disputes
✔ Fair Work investigations
✔ Significant costs to rectify issues after they've been identified

A pay review can help confirm:
✔ The correct Modern Award applies
✔ Employees are classified correctly
✔ Pay rates align with Award requirements
✔ Allowances and penalty rates are being applied correctly

The good news is that many issues can be identified and addressed before they become costly problems.

If you're unsure whether your employees are classified correctly or being paid in line with Award requirements, now is a great time to review.

When was the last time you reviewed your Employment Agreements?

Many businesses are still relying on employment agreements that were prepared years ago and may no longer reflect current legislation, workplace practices, or the reality of an employee's role.

While they may have been appropriate at the time, changes to your business, workforce, or employment laws can leave gaps that create unnecessary risk.

A review can help identify:
✔ Outdated clauses
✔ Missing entitlements or obligations
✔ Inconsistent terms between employees
✔ Gaps in key provisions
✔ Agreements that no longer reflect the employee's role

Your employment agreements should reflect your business today, not the way it operated five years ago.

If you can't remember the last time they were reviewed, now may be a good time to take another look.

Fair Work Wage Increase Confirmed

From the first full pay period on or after 1 July 2026 the National Minimum Wage will increase to:

✔ $26.44 per hour
✔ $1,004.90 per week

If you employ Award-covered employees, now is the time to review:

➡️ Employment Agreements
➡️ Award classifications
➡️ Payroll settings
➡️ Annualised salary and set-off arrangements

Many businesses assume they are compliant because they pay above Award rates. Unfortunately, compliance is not always that simple.

At Baseline Consulting, we can assist with:

📄 Employment Agreement Reviews
⚖️ BOOT Assessments
📋 Award Classification Reviews
📨 Employee Notification Letters
🔍 HR Compliance Health Checks

Your Employment Agreements should do more than record a job title, pay rate and start date.

A well-written Employment Agreement helps define the employment relationship, set expectations, support compliance and protect both your business and your people.

With ongoing Fair Work changes, Award updates and changing workplace obligations, many businesses are still relying on contracts that haven't been reviewed in years.

That doesn't automatically mean they're wrong, but it may be worth asking:

✔ Do they still reflect how employees actually work?
✔ Are they aligned with current workplace obligations?
✔ Do they contain the protections your business needs?
✔ Would they hold up if an issue appeared tomorrow?

If you're not sure, download your free Employment Agreement Mini Review Checklist to help you complete a quick health check of your current agreements.

A lot of businesses rely on outdated processes, undocumented expectations or workplace practices that have simply “always worked”.

But workplace legislation, compliance obligations and business operations continue to evolve, and what worked a few years ago may no longer reflect current obligations or best practice.

Clear and up to date policies help businesses:

✔ create consistency
✔ support managers
✔ guide employees
✔ manage workplace issues
✔ reduce risk
✔ strengthen workplace foundations

Good HR is not just paperwork. It helps protect both your business and your people.

If you haven’t reviewed your workplace documentation in a while, now might be a good time.
