Here are my 10 sure ways to retain those people you spent so much time, money and energy on finding:

Competitive Compensation (this one should go without saying! so it's not counted in my 10)

Training & a Career Path – provide support to achieve their goals

Work-Life Balance – flexi work hours, work from home

Supportive Culture where they feel valued & respected

Regular (constructive) feedback and acknowledge their achievements

Incentives: Implement recognition programs, offer bonuses, awards, or other incentives based on performance

Employee Engagement – be approachable as a leader and ask for feedback from employees and actually listen to it!

Open Honest Communication

Promote a Positive Workplace Culture

Effective Leadership and Management

Job Security – this is huge!! Nail what this looks like before even hiring

Employee Ownership – they’re adults, treat them like it!

The first week of a new employee joining your team is crucial for setting the tone and helping them integrate into the company culture. Here are five actions to take during that initial week:

🌞 make them feel really welcome and introduce them to their team so they instantly feel comfortable

🌞 have a clear overview of the role and go through with them; this should be duties, responsibilities and expectations

🌞 ensure there is a structured training plan from day 1 so they have a clear path to follow

🌞 personalise! Find out their learning style beforehand so you can ensure they are set up to succeed from day 1

🌞 communication - make sure the communication is open and you have regular touch points to check in on how they are doing
