⚖️ Penalty Rates Protected

The Government has introduced the Fair Work Amendment (Protecting Penalty and Overtime Rates) Bill 2025 to safeguard penalty and overtime entitlements.

While the legislation is still progressing through Parliament, the intent is clear: award-reliant workers will keep their penalty and overtime protections, and businesses must ensure compliance.

Key points:
✅ Award penalty and overtime rates cannot be reduced
✅ No swapping rates for flat or “all-inclusive” wages (unless under a registered agreement)
✅ Payroll compliance is more important than ever

The Tax Practitioners Board (TPB) has launched a new campaign to highlight the risks of using unregistered BAS preparers.

Unregistered agents may not have the right qualifications, and lodging through them can leave businesses exposed to penalties and legal issues.

Always check the TPB Register or look for the registered tax practitioner symbol to make sure your BAS Agent is qualified.
