In aged care, we often speak about clinical excellence, governance, compliance, staffing pressures, and the increasing complexity of supporting older Australians. These conversations are important. But there is another force working quietly in the background that rarely appears in reports, budgets, or strategic plans. Volunteers.

Not because they have to be there. Because they choose to be there.

During National Volunteer Week, we celebrate the extraordinary people who freely give their time to support others. At MYVISTA, we see every day how volunteers quietly strengthen aged care communities. They sit with residents, help at activities, and share conversations. These moments can completely change the shape of a day.

Volunteers don’t replace care. They enrich it. They bring warmth, continuity, and community into environments that can otherwise feel clinical or busy.

To all our volunteers at MYVISTA and across aged care, we thank you. Your presence is not just appreciated, it is deeply felt. You remind us that care is not only something we provide. It is something we share.

When families are faced with end-of-life decisions, they are not just making clinical choices. They are navigating emotion, uncertainty, time pressure, and often, profound grief all at once.

In Episode 2 of our Advance Care Planning series, we explore how aged care teams can support families through end-of-life decisions with confidence. This conversation focuses on what truly matters in those moments:
· Clear communication
· Emotional steadiness
· Earlier preparation
· And the confidence to guide without overwhelming

In aged care, these moments are inevitable. But how they are experienced by families, residents, and staff is something we can actively shape.

Better conversations earlier lead to better support when it matters most.

Staying steady, strong, and confident!

Residents at MYVISTA Balcatta recently took part in a practical falls prevention workshop led by our physiotherapist. The session included simple exercises, balance and mobility tips, and practical advice to help support safety, confidence, and independence in everyday life.

At MYVISTA, we’re committed to supporting the health and wellbeing of our residents through engaging and informative activities that make a real difference.

Some of the most important conversations in aged care are also the ones most often delayed. Not because they don’t matter, but because they are difficult to start.

In Episode 1 of our Advance Care Planning series, we explore how to lead meaningful care planning conversations that bring clarity, reduce uncertainty, and ensure a person’s wishes are truly understood.

Featuring insights from a MYVISTA Board Member, this discussion goes beyond process. It focuses on how we create the conditions for honest, compassionate conversations before crisis makes them urgent.

When these conversations happen early, everything changes for residents, for families, and for the teams supporting them.

Because good care is not only delivered in moments of need it is shaped in the conversations that come long before.

Today commences National Palliative Care Week focusing on the conversations many of us find hardest to have, but also the ones that matter most.

At MYVISTA, we have these conversations every day. We sit with families, we listen, we support, and we help guide people through decisions that come from love, not fear.

We know this is hard. Talking about palliative care is not something anyone feels ready for. But waiting often means others have to guess what you would have wanted in a moment that can’t be replayed.

Care WA helps you have that conversation gently, honestly and at your pace with support the whole way through.

If you take one thing from this week, let it be this: don’t leave the important things unsaid.

We encourage you, even if it feels difficult, to start the conversation. Visit our website for resources, guidance, and support on Palliative Care Week in a range of languages : https://www.myvista.com.au/resources/

Every year on 25 April, Australians come together at dawn to remember the courage and sacrifice of those who served our country. We lay wreaths, share stories, and reflect on what Anzac Day means to us all.

But beyond history, Anzac Day also asks us to look at the people in our lives today and how we care for them.

Many veterans, along with so many older Australians, now live in aged care communities. They carry incredible life stories of resilience, service, and strength. But they also face the quieter challenges of ageing—loneliness, health changes, and the loss of independence.

The values we honour on Anzac Day such as mateship, service, and courage are not just part of our past. They are values we can live every day, especially in how we treat and support our elders.

At MYVISTA, we see this every day in the little moments that matter most: sharing a story, offering a smile, helping someone feel comfortable and cared for, or simply taking the time to listen.

Caring for older Australians is about more than support, it’s about dignity, respect, and connection.

This Anzac season, let’s remember not only those who served, but also the quiet strength of our elders today and the importance of ensuring they continue to feel valued, heard, and part of our community.

At MYVISTA, occasions like Easter are a beautiful reminder to pause, connect, and think about one another.

While Easter eggs, hot cross buns, and the Easter Bunny bring fun and sweet traditions, the deeper message of Easter is something we can all share — no matter our faith, culture, or beliefs. It’s a message of hope, kindness, renewal and caring for one another.

Moments like these bring our community together. Whether it’s sharing a treat, a smile, or a conversation, it’s these simple acts of kindness that make MYVISTA a special place for residents, families and staff.

Wishing everyone in our community a joyful and hopeful Easter.

The MYVISTA Mirrabooka community came together to celebrate our annual Harmony Fair, held during WA Harmony Week and what a wonderful celebration it was!

Residents, families and staff enjoyed a vibrant afternoon filled with delicious food from different cultures, bringing the flavours of the world right to our tables. One of the highlights was the lively music from crowd favourites Luno Duo, who had everyone smiling, tapping their feet and singing along.

We were also treated to a spectacular performance by Turkish dancers, adding colour, rhythm and energy to the day and celebrating the many cultures that make our community so special.

At MYVISTA, diversity is at the heart of who we are. Events like our Harmony Fair are a beautiful reminder that different cultures, languages and traditions enrich our lives and bring us closer together.

Thank you to everyone who helped make the day such a joyful celebration of community, culture and connection.
