Rare Engineering Group is looking for a Geotechnical Logger to join our Perth-based team 😊

This role will see you working across a wide variety of projects, commodities, mine sites, and locations, collecting field data that supports open-pit and underground geotechnical work.

You might already have logging experience and be ready for a change of rocks. Or you might be a recent graduate looking for your first real step into mining. Either way, we’re looking for someone practical, detail-focused and keen to learn.

You’ll be involved in geotechnical logging, structure measurement, sample selection, point load testing, scanline mapping and data analysis, with support from a globally experienced team.

Rare Engineering is growing, and we are looking for a Geotechnical Engineer to join our Perth-based team 😊

Rare is an independent geotechnical services provider specialising in geotechnical site services for mining operations. We are a new and expanding company, built on significant industry experience, strong technical partnerships and access to mining projects across Australia and overseas.

This role will involve secondments to client mine sites as a site geotechnical engineer. The work will cover a range of commodities, locations and project requirements. We are open to underground or open pit geotechnical experience.

At Rare, you will be part of a business that is still being built. That means your input matters. You will have the opportunity to contribute to the company's future direction, not just fill a role.

We offer a flexible work environment, a globally experienced team and access to new technologies, software and research that support better geotechnical outcomes on-site.

We are looking for someone with:
▪️ A degree in Geological Engineering, Geology or Civil Engineering, or postgraduate qualifications in Mining Geomechanics or equivalent
▪️ 2–4 years of geotechnical engineering experience in hard rock mining, although other experience levels will be considered
▪️ Underground or open pit experience
▪️ Strong attention to detail
▪️ A practical approach to site work
▪️ The right to work and live in Australia

How do projects move from Scoping Study to PFS?

Tom and Sonam have recently completed a couple of two-week swings in the Pilbara, carrying out geotechnical logging and sample selection for a client advancing an existing operation towards the next stage of development.

It is great to see the team contributing practical, on-the-ground expertise that helps turn study outcomes into the next phase of project development 😊

Three trips into PNG. One big geotechnical logging program wrapped up.

Chandra was in Papua New Guinea for the third and final visit on this geotechnical logging campaign, working alongside the local geology and geotechnical team throughout the project.

What started as a data-collection program also became a capability-building exercise on the ground. Good geotechnical data relies on consistency, understanding and people who take pride in the process. It has been great to see that develop across each visit.

Massive thanks again to the PNG team for the hospitality, hard work and willingness to learn throughout the program 🙏

Adding capability across operations and geotechnical 🙌

Rare is pleased to welcome Jason Graham as Operations Manager and Geotechnical Consultant.

With over 18 years in the mining industry, including 16 years focused on underground geotechnical engineering, Jason brings a strong mix of site experience and leadership. He has held roles with Vale, Western Areas and IGO, most recently leading geotechnical teams across Forrestania and Cosmos.

His background in ground control, geotechnical risk management and leading site teams closely aligns with how we work at Rare.

Jason will play a key role in leading operations and continuing to deliver high-quality geotechnical solutions for our clients.

You might remember the shots from Nuru’s first stint in Papua New Guinea. If not, worth a scroll back 📸

Nuru’s second stint saw him back on site completing the geotechnical logging program, working alongside the same team.

He was also fortunate to inspect the remote drill sites via helicopter. Great way to see the beautiful blue skies in between the frequent rain 🚁

Chandra recently wrapped up a logging campaign in the Northern Territory across dedicated geotechnical and resource definition drill holes.

The data collected will feed into both open-pit and underground geotechnical analysis, helping build a clearer picture of ground conditions and supporting the decisions that follow.

Good outcomes in design and planning start with solid, reliable data in the core shed. It's something we are known for at Rare 😊

Robb Jackson recently delivered geotechnical logging training in Guyana for site geologists.

The training covered the theory behind the data, why it matters and how it feeds into design, modelling and risk decisions downstream. Then it got practical with learning the skills required to log core accurately and consistently.
