Li Chun is known as the Solar New Year in Chinese astrology and Feng Shui. The moment the sun’s cycle shifts into Spring and the energetic year resets. It’s different from the Lunar New Year, which follows the moon’s rhythm and arrives on February 17, welcoming the Year of the Fire Horse.

Both dates matter, but in different ways.
Li Chun sets the direction.

It marks the beginning of the solar cycle, symbolising renewal, growth and the first forward momentum. Traditionally, people honour this day by depositing money, starting a savings ritual, or taking a small step toward prosperity. A way of aligning intentions towards wealth and abundance as the year opens.

The Lunar New Year welcomes the energy in.
On February 17, the Fire Horse arrives, a vibrant, dynamic, forward‑moving energy that shapes the tone of the year ahead. This is the celebration most people recognise with gatherings, rituals and the collective shift into a new zodiac cycle.

Tonight, the Snow Moon rises as the final full moon of the Snake year, a quiet, luminous marker of completion.

Here in the southern hemisphere, it appears a day later, shimmering on February 2 beneath warm summer air rather than winter frost. It’s faint halo creates a sense of contrast and clarity, a reminder that endings don’t always arrive in the way we expect.

This moon closes the Snake cycle with intention. The Snake teaches transformation through refinement by shedding what no longer fits and releasing what has grown heavy or misaligned. The Snow Moon amplifies that process, illuminating the space where you’ve outgrown old patterns, identities or expectations. It creates space for what feels more true, more aligned and more supportive of who you are becoming.
