Standing in the cot… one of the most common (and exhausting 😅) developmental stages parents go through! Just when you’ve navigated the rolling, crawling and babbling phases, another milestone arrives ☺️

While it can make naps and bedtime feel extra challenging for a little while, it’s actually a HUGE developmental milestone 🤍

The good news? There are ways to support your little one through it while still encouraging healthy sleep habits. Swipe through for my top tips 👉🏼

Did you know babies aren’t actually born with a fully developed circadian rhythm? 👶💤

Their internal body clock takes time to mature which is why newborn sleep can feel so unpredictable in those early months.

Understanding your baby’s circadian rhythm can make such a difference when it comes to sleep, naps, and bedtime routines ✨

Had you heard of the term “circadian rhythm” before? Or is this new to you? ⬇️

Sleep deprivation is literally used as a form of torture.

Yet when new parents experience it, we normalise it and expect them to function as if nothing has changed.

The newborn stage is beautiful, but it’s also one of the most exhausting periods of life.

If you are in it right now, give yourself grace.

Dont be afraid to ask for help ❤️❤️

Did you know that being even slightly cold overnight can make it harder for babies to stay asleep?

In the early morning hours (around 3–6am), babies naturally spend more time in lighter sleep. At the same time, their core body temperature drops as part of their normal circadian rhythm.

Because babies are still learning to regulate their temperature, they’re much more sensitive to these changes than adults. So if the room cools down overnight or they’re not quite warm enough, it can make them more likely to wake and struggle to resettle.

Keeping your baby comfortably warm (not hot) can really support more settled, consolidated sleep, especially in those early morning hours 🤍

As the seasons shift and overnight temperatures change, it can be tricky to get your little one dressed just right. If you need help with layers or tog guidance, feel free to drop a comment below or send me a message, I’m happy to help!

Reverse cycling can feel confusing, but it’s actually really common 🤍

If your baby is feeding more overnight and less during the day, they’re often “making up” calories at night, usually because they’re distracted, busy, or not taking full feeds in the day.

The good news? It’s fixable.

Focus on:
✨ Full, unrushed feeds during the day
✨ Feeding in a low-stimulation environment
✨ Feed upon waking so that your baby is well rested and hungry enough to take a good feed.
✨ Offering regular feeds across the day so they’re not relying on overnight calories
✨ Gently resettling overnight where appropriate

It’s not about cutting night feeds cold turkey, it’s about gradually shifting those calories back to the daytime, while protecting independent sleep.

Consistency is key, and it will turn around 🤍 Comment below if you have any questions on reverse cycling ⤵️

Safe sleep really doesn’t have to be complicated. 💟

When it comes to reducing the risk of sleep-related incidents in babies, these 5 non- negotiable make all the difference.

1. On their back
2. Empty cot- not even mesh bumpers
3. Firm, flat mattress
4. Own safe sleep space
5. Room sharing (not bed sharing)

White noise can be a really helpful tool for baby sleep, but how you use it matters.

Some research has found that certain sound machines can reach very high volumes if they’re set to maximum. At those levels, the sound can be similar to everyday appliances like a blender, and ongoing exposure that loud isn’t recommended for developing ears.

The key is using white noise at a safe, gentle level. Aim for roughly 50 decibels (about the sound of a quiet shower), keep the machine somewhere between your baby’s sleep space and the environmental sounds, and avoid turning it up to full volume.

When it’s set up this way, white noise can be really beneficial. It helps soften sudden household or street noises, creates a consistent and calming sleep environment, and can become a reliable cue that signals it’s time for sleep. Many babies find it easier to settle and link their sleep cycles when it’s part of their routine.

If you’re unsure about your current setup, you can quickly check the volume using a free decibel meter app on your phone tonight.

Have a two-year-old who still drinks their milk from a bottle before bed? 🍼

You’re definitely not alone, it’s a really common part of many toddlers’ bedtime routines. But around this age, it can actually start to impact things like sleep, dental health, and your child’s ability to settle independently or sleep all night.

In this reel I’m sharing a few reasons why it can be helpful to start moving away from the bedtime bottle, and what this transition can look like for your toddler.

If this is something you’re currently navigating, have a listen. It might help things click into place. ✨

Let me know in the comments, does your toddler still have a bottle before bed?

If you’re feeling exhausted from long bedtimes, struggling to settle your little one to sleep, dealing with multiple overnight wakes, or feeling like your days have no real rhythm or structure, you’re not alone. So many parents find themselves in this place at some point, and it can feel incredibly overwhelming when you’re running on little sleep and trying to figure it all out.

Sleep challenges can affect the whole family. Bedtime can start to feel stressful, nights can feel endless, and the days can become a blur of trying to manage naps, feeds, and everything else life throws at you. It’s easy to start questioning whether you’re doing something wrong, but the truth is that many of these challenges are very common and often just need the right guidance and support to work through.

If you’re feeling stuck or unsure where to start, please know you don’t have to navigate this on your own. With the right support, a clear plan, and an approach that feels comfortable for your family, things can absolutely improve.

If you’d like some support getting your little one settling more easily, reducing those overnight wakes, and bringing some calm and predictability back to your days, I’d love to help. Reach out anytime, I’m here to support you through it. 🤍
