Light as a design material. This project gets it.

PUR Residential Recording Studio by SOUR layers soft ambient lighting, reflective surfaces and sculptural form to create something that shifts and changes across the space. Shadow, texture, contrast, all considered, all intentional.

Technical performance wrapped in residential warmth. This one is staying on the moodboard.

Bunkeren by James Stockwell Architect responds directly to its coastal landscape through a design approach centred around resilience, site integration and environmental performance.

Embedded into the sloping terrain, the home references the form of historic bunkers while using earth sheltering, planting and robust materiality to support bushfire protection, thermal stability and biodiversity outcomes. Concrete and landscape work together to create a dwelling that sits low within the site and responds carefully to its natural surroundings.

The project reflects a considered approach to sustainable residential architecture, balancing environmental responsiveness with strong sculptural form.

Located in Arizona’s wine country, Los Milics Vineyard Tasting Room by Chen Suchart Studio is designed to frame the surrounding landscape with a bold, highly sculptural architectural form.

Weathered steel volumes extend across the site, creating a strong visual contrast against the desert setting and mountain backdrop. Expansive glazing and a restrained material palette allow the surrounding vineyard and natural environment to remain central to the experience.

The project balances hospitality and architecture through a design approach that feels both immersive and deeply connected to place.

Construction has commenced on Bank Street Park at Blackwattle Bay, the first public open space to begin delivery as part of the wider Bays West precinct transformation in Sydney.

Designed to reconnect the city with the harbour, the waterfront park will introduce new green spaces, public walkways and recreational areas that prioritise accessibility, community and environmental resilience. The project also marks a significant milestone for the industry, targeting 50 per cent female representation across design and construction teams.

Bringing together sustainability, public infrastructure and inclusive city-making, the project reflects a broader shift towards more considered and future-focused urban development.

Set amongst the rolling landscape of Orange, Rowlee Wines by Benn + Penna Architects brings together hospitality, landscape and architecture through a calm and carefully restrained design approach.

Natural textures, soft materiality and expansive glazing create a seamless connection to the surrounding vineyard, allowing the landscape to become part of the dining experience itself. The interiors feel refined yet grounded, balancing contemporary detailing with the warmth and simplicity of the regional setting.

Designed as an extension of the winery experience, the project embraces seasonality, gathering and a strong sense of place through every detail.

ICONICA Adelaide, last Thursday.

Big ideas took centre stage at Adelaide Festival Centre as the architecture and design community came together for an evening of discovery, conversation and inspiration.

Across the room, materials were explored, perspectives were shared, and new connections were formed between the people shaping the built environment.

Events like ICONICA remind us that some of the industry’s most valuable insights come from simply being in the room.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the Adelaide edition.

The full event album is now live on Facebook. Go find yourself. 👀
