Stop blindly writing SOPs!

You hired a team to share the load. So why does every question or decision still come back to you?

Informal processes often work when a business is small and everyone knows how things are done. As the team grows, however, relying on memory and verbal instructions can start creating delays and inconsistency.

Here are five signs it may be time for clearer systems:
1. The same questions keep coming back
2. Important parts of task are missed by different employees
3. Important information lives in someone’s head
4. New employees take too long to become confident
5. Work stops when a particular person is unavailable

You might not need lengthy procedures. Start by clarifying responsibilities, agreeing on the simplest workable process and giving people one reliable place to find what they need.

Last week, I spent a day working on Elle-C Consulting at Emma McQueen’s Go-Getter Day.

It was a valuable opportunity to step away from the day-to-day work and dedicate some proper time to strategy, planning and thinking about how I can best serve my clients.

My biggest takeaway was collaboration. Talking through ideas, hearing different perspectives and learning alongside other female business owners helped bring some of my own plans into clearer focus.

I met some incredible women, came away with plenty of notes, fresh ideas and most importantly, some clear actions to work on.

A little fun fact about me:

Outside of management systems, policies, procedures and processes, I love dancing Brazilian Samba.

I love the music, the colours, the friendships, the energy and movement. I also love that it doesn't matter how much I've learnt over the years, there's always something to refine.

I'm a big believer in continuous improvement in business too. Seeing the little things in processes, refining and getting better over time.

Who do I help?

I work with small and medium businesses that need better systems behind the work they're already doing.

Transport, Agriculture and Tourism are industries I have particular experience in, but management systems aren't just for big corporations or businesses chasing an ISO certification.
