It is with much sadness that we share the heartbreaking news of the passing of our dear friend and colleague, Marc Ethan.
Marc was part of Echo Interpreting from the very beginning in 2006, serving for 12 years as our in-house interpreter and helping to shape the heart, culture, and professional standards of who we are today. His contribution to Echo was undeniable.
Marc was an exceptional interpreter, a mentor, a steady presence, and a deeply valued member of our interpreting family.
Marc had a profound love and respect for the Deaf community. He approached every booking with pride, integrity, and care, always ensuring Deaf clients were seen, heard, and valued. He gave generously of his time to support and encourage newer interpreters, sharing his knowledge with patience, warmth, and humour. Many of us learned from him, laughed with him, and are better professionals because of him.
Marcs passing leaves an enormous hole not only within Echo Interpreting, but across the interpreting profession and the wider Deaf community he served so faithfully.
On a personal level, I am deeply grateful for Marcโs loyalty, his many years of friendship, and the trust he placed in Echo from day one. He helped build something meaningful, and his legacy will continue to live on in our work and in the standards he set.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to Marcโs family, friends, colleagues, and to the Deaf, and interpreting community who walked alongside him. He will be greatly missed and always remembered.
With respect and love,
