Just had a phone call from a family member asking about the Holst frame. This frame was named after my great uncle, Arnold Holst, who studied under Septimus Power.
The frame was made and designed (c.1935) by Jarman The Picture Framer, which my mother, Jillian Holst ran and owned between 1988-2015. Lovely bit of family history in the art world 🙂

One of my many tea break activities is to make these lovely little wooden gems. ☕️ ☺️
Stretcher keys are important to provide a steady tension to the canvas. If the canvas becomes too loose this can create a number of problems to the painting. The canvas can buckle creating creases, wrinkles, bludges and dents, stress cracks, flaking paint and stretcher marks.
