One of the most common mistakes in taxidermy. 🚨
Not taking enough reference photos and measurements!!
Before you start working on your deer, take time to document it properly.
Take plenty of reference photos from different angles. 📸
Record your important measurements.📏
Note the details that will help you later. Facial features, ear position, antler position, eye placement and the overall proportions of the animal.
Once you start fleshing and working on the hide, you can’t go back and check what the animal looked like in the flesh.
Your reference photos and measurements become your roadmap for putting everything back together accurately.
Don’t rely on memory.
Don’t guess.
Measure it. Photograph it. Reference it.
It’s one of those simple steps that make a huge difference to the finished mount.
