Imagine waking on a Tuesday morning and the first thing you feel is not the dread you have normalised so completely that you barely register it anymore.
Imagine saying the true thing in a difficult conversation and moving on with your day, instead of replaying it for three days.
Imagine being home with your family and actually being there, without running the residue of work behind your eyes.
This is what Episode 17 of Unapologetic Edge is about.
When survival patterns stop consuming most of your nervous system's capacity, that capacity does not disappear. It becomes available for your life.
Your drive remains. Your intelligence remains. Your ambition remains. You simply get to hold them, instead of having them run automatically on your behalf.
In this episode, I walk through the four stages of moving from pattern recognition towards genuine choice: precision, origin, interruption and the crossroads between management and deeper resolution.

Some of the women struggling most with their mental health still look completely capable.

They turn up.
Meet the deadline.
Remember what everyone needs.
Handle the problem.
Keep the family, team or business moving.

From the outside, she looks indispensable.

Inside, she may be holding herself together with the same determination everyone keeps praising her for.

High-functioning can hide an enormous amount of distress. Sometimes being the strong one becomes part of the problem. Everyone assumes you are okay, and you keep using your ability to cope as evidence that you should be.

Eventually, the cost shows up.

In your patience.
Your sleep.
Your relationships.
Your body.
The quiet resentment that comes from being the place every unfinished thing gets put.

For World Mental Health Day, I want to make it a little easier to begin changing that.

Your nervous system is currently having a breakdown that nobody warned you about.
You're hot. You're cold. You're raging at something completely unreasonable. You're weeping at a dog food ad. You can't sleep. You can't think. You're having conversations that you don't remember having.
And everyone's treating you like you've lost your mind.
Here's the thing though: you haven't.
What's actually happening is your nervous system has been running on survival programming since you were five, and perimenopause just turned up the volume so loud you can't ignore it anymore.
You managed fine for decades when your hormones were helping you push through. But now they're gone and your nervous system is like: right, we're not doing this anymore.
So you're at work trying to hold it together whilst internally combusting. You're snapping at people who've done absolutely nothing wrong. You're wondering if you need to leave your job. You're questioning your marriage. You're googling "am I having a breakdown" at 3am whilst simultaneously drenched in sweat.
And nobody's explaining WHY.
I recorded four videos about exactly this.
Video 1: Stop Managing. Start Becoming (why you suddenly can't push through anymore)
Video 2: Your Body Isn't the Enemy (it's finally telling you the truth about what's been unsustainable)
Video 3: When No More Collides With Keep Going (that impossible feeling when your nervous system says absolutely not but everyone expects you to stay the same)
Video 4: The Caregiver's Clash (why you feel guilty for prioritising yourself when you're literally falling apart)
By the end, you understand what's actually happening at a nervous system level. The panic settles. You stop doubting yourself. You know who you are, separate from the chaos.
Normally $77 AUD.
This week, 50% off with code PORTAL50.
That's $38.50 to stop thinking you're losing it and start understanding what's actually real.

If you’re overwhelmed, wired, and second-guessing everything right now… this is the portal back to the woman you were always meant to become.

Nobody told me perimenopause would make masking harder, not easier.

Everyone thinks you're fine. You're very good at that.

If you're tired in a way sleep doesn't fix, and everything you've tried has worked for about a fortnight, you already know something isn't adding up. You don't need another strategy. You want to feel like yourself again.

I rebuilt unapologeticedge.com from the ground up for exactly that person. Not the one in crisis. The one still delivering, still coping, still the person everyone leans on, and quietly running on empty.

It's written in plain language, because if you've only just heard the words "nervous system" in a podcast you shouldn't need a dictionary to find help. It explains why rest stops working, why the holiday didn't fix it, and why you can understand yourself in enormous detail and still repeat the same thing under pressure.

And there's a free three-minute Burnout Audit on the home page that looks past how busy you are to what's actually draining you. Most people find at least one result they didn't expect.

Have a look: unapologeticedge.com

If someone comes to mind while you're reading it, send it to them. They're probably not going to ask.

You're About To Quit Your Job. But First, Read This.

You used to be good at this.
Now you can't imagine staying one more day.
You're wondering if you should quit.
But before you make a decision you can't take back, you need to understand something.
There's a difference between a job that's genuinely wrong and a nervous system that's finally hit a wall.
This carousel explains the difference.
Swipe through to find out which one is actually true for you.

I've never created a course before that had people messaging me in the first 10 minutes telling me how amazing it is.

And asking when they can access the rest.

That's not normal.

But then again, The Becoming Portal isn't a normal course.

It's not information. It's recognition.

It's not teaching. It's understanding.

Women are watching Video 1 and immediately seeing themselves.

Not the version of themselves they've been told they should be.

The actual version that's been underneath all the managing.

And they're messaging to say things like:

"I've never heard anyone name this before."

"That's exactly what I've been feeling and I thought I was crazy."

"I'm watching Video 2 right now. I can't stop."

"This is what I've been looking for for years."

This is what happens when you stop selling solutions and start creating spaces for recognition.

When you stop trying to fix people and start helping them understand themselves.

The Becoming Portal is 4 videos in 6 days to unlock the bonuses.

But people aren't waiting for the bonuses.

They're messaging after 10 minutes.

Because something lands when you finally hear yourself reflected back accurately.

Here's what I told them.
The people who care too much at work aren't more passionate than everyone else. Their nervous system is just working overtime. Over-functioning isn't a personality trait, it's what happens when your body decides the room isn't safe unless you're the one holding it together.
Hypervigilance is exhausting because it never actually clocks off. You're not "too much," you're running a pattern that once kept you safe and now just keeps you tired.
I've spent years working clinically with people carrying exactly this. Achievement addiction. People-pleasing. The burnout cycle that looks like ambition from the outside and feels like survival on the inside.
If any of that just landed, Reclaim Your Edge walks you through why the pattern is there and how to actually interrupt it. Four weeks, self-paced, no fluff. Comment reclaim for the Link or DM me.

I thought perimenopause was taking me away from myself.
I’m beginning to think it was doing the opposite.
Nobody really prepares you for how strange perimenopause can feel.
You expect the obvious things.
Hot flushes.
Periods doing whatever the hell they like.
Maybe some weight gain.
You’ve heard about the sleep.
You know hormones are going to change.
What I wasn’t prepared for was how much I seemed to change.
My tolerance changed.
Things I had happily done for years suddenly irritated me beyond reason.
People I loved could ask me a perfectly innocent question and I’d feel this surge of:
Can everybody PLEASE stop needing something from me?
I could be fine one minute and furious the next.
Then crying.
Then wondering why I was crying.
I couldn’t recover from things the way I used to.
A difficult conversation could stay in my body for days.
Noise felt louder.
People felt needier.
Work felt heavier.
Sleep became unreliable.
Words disappeared halfway through sentences.
And somewhere amongst all of it was this unsettling feeling that I was losing access to the woman I had always been.
So I did what women do.
I tried to get her back.
I wanted my energy back.
My patience back.
My motivation back.
My ability to handle everything back.
I wanted to feel like myself again.
Except there was one question I hadn't thought to ask:
What if the woman I was trying so desperately to get back to was already exhausted?
Because she was.
She was incredibly capable.
She could carry a ridiculous amount.
She remembered everything.
Managed everything.
Anticipated what everyone needed.
She could push through exhaustion and call it a busy week.
She could swallow irritation and call it patience.
She could say yes when she meant no and barely even notice she'd done it.
She could take care of everyone else and convince herself she didn't need much.
And for years, her body somehow helped her pull it off.
Then came perimenopause.
And the rules changed.
I started learning about what actually happens during this transition.
Oestrogen and progesterone aren't only involved in reproduction.
They interact with systems involved in sleep, mood, cognition and our response to stress.
And during perimenopause, they don't simply glide gently downwards.
They can fluctuate.
Sometimes dramatically.
Which means a woman who has spent decades carrying an enormous physical and emotional load can suddenly discover that the way she has always operated doesn't work anymore.
I think of it like losing your shock absorbers.
The road didn't necessarily become rough overnight.
You can suddenly feel every bump.
And THAT made sense to me.
Maybe perimenopause wasn't creating an entirely different woman.
Maybe it was making it much harder to keep overriding the one who was already there.
The resentment I'd swallowed.
The exhaustion I'd normalised.
The boundaries I'd avoided.
The relationships I'd been managing.
The amount of responsibility I'd quietly accumulated.
The pressure I'd put on myself to be capable, useful, accommodating and okay.
Suddenly my body wasn't cooperating with the arrangement.
And I kept calling that a symptom.
What if some of it was information?
That question changed the way I saw perimenopause.
Because there are physical symptoms that deserve proper medical care.
There are hormonal changes that matter.
There are treatments that can make an enormous difference for women.
And alongside all of that, there can be something else happening.
A woman is changing.
Her body is changing.
Her nervous system is changing.
Her capacity is changing.
Her tolerance for abandoning herself may be changing too.
And perhaps we shouldn't be in such a hurry to silence every part of that.
Because think about what happens around this age.
The woman who spent twenty years keeping the peace suddenly doesn't want to keep it anymore.
The woman who did everything for everyone starts saying:
"You can do that yourself."
The woman who tolerated things for years suddenly thinks:
"Actually, this doesn't work for me."
The woman who built her identity around being needed starts wondering:
Who am I when I'm no longer willing to organise my entire life around everybody else?
We call her irritable.
Difficult.
Hormonal.
Having a midlife crisis.
Sometimes she wonders if she's losing her mind.
I wonder if we have misunderstood part of what is happening.
Because perimenopause isn't simply the beginning of the end of your reproductive years.
It is a major biological transition in a woman's life.
And transitions change us.
Adolescence did.
Motherhood did.
Why wouldn't this?
Perhaps the question isn't only:
How do I make these symptoms stop?
Perhaps there's another one sitting underneath it:
Who am I becoming through this?
Because maybe you aren't supposed to emerge from perimenopause exactly as you entered it.
Maybe the woman on the other side has clearer boundaries.
Different priorities.
Less tolerance for relationships that drain her.
More awareness of what her body is telling her.
Less interest in proving how much she can carry.
More willingness to take up space in her own life.
And maybe some of what feels like everything falling apart is actually the point where the old way of being becomes impossible to maintain.
That is the conversation I wanted to have when I created The Becoming Portal.
Not another list of foods to avoid.
Not another morning routine.
Not another woman telling you how to optimise your way through perimenopause.
A deeper understanding of why this transition can feel so profoundly personal.
Why your nervous system suddenly feels louder.
Why the patterns you've carried for decades can become harder to suppress.
Why the people around you may struggle when you begin changing.
Why choosing yourself can feel simultaneously necessary and terrifying.
And what might be waiting underneath all of it.
Because I don't think the only goal of perimenopause should be getting you back to who you were before it started.
I want to know who you're becoming.
The Becoming Portal is an invitation to find out.
Perimenopause as a portal, not a problem.

You’re managing. But at what cost?

You’re still showing up.

Still doing the work. Still meeting the deadlines. Still being the person everyone can rely on.

Which makes it very easy to tell yourself you’re fine.

But there are other ways to measure how you’re doing.

The things you cancel because you’re too exhausted.

Being physically present with the people you love and mentally somewhere else.

The friendships that have quietly contracted to the people who need the least from you.

The resentment underneath being endlessly reliable.

The amount of energy you spend checking, anticipating, managing and making sure nothing goes wrong.

The moments you catch a glimpse of who you used to be and wonder where she went.

This is the part of high-functioning burnout we don’t talk about enough.

The invisible cost of holding it all together.

Episode 16 of Unapologetic Edge is about making that cost visible.

Because you’ve already proved you can keep managing.

The more important question might be whether you still want to.

🎧 Watch the full episode on YouTube, link in comments, or listen wherever you get your podcasts.

If this lands a little close to home, the free Burnout Audit is also in the comments.

And if you already know you’re ready to start changing these patterns, you’ll find Reclaim Your Edge there too.
