🚨 **LINE OF DUTY DEATH — SERGEANT MARLENE RITTMANIC** 🚨

Sergeant Marlene Rittmanic of the Bradley Police Department was killed after responding to a noise complaint at the Comfort Inn on Illinois Route 50 at approximately 9:30 p.m.

According to reports, officers were investigating complaints of barking dogs left unattended in a vehicle when they made contact with occupants at the motel room. During the encounter, both officers were attacked and shot.

Sergeant Rittmanic was transported to hospital in serious condition but later succumbed to her injuries shortly after midnight. Her partner also sustained a gunshot wound to the head and suffered permanent injuries, ultimately retiring from law enforcement due to disability.

Following the incident, the suspects fled the scene and were later captured after a multi-state manhunt lasting approximately 36 hours. One suspect was later convicted of first-degree murder in 2024 and sentenced to life in prison.

Sergeant Rittmanic served the Bradley Police Department for 14 years and previously served seven years with the Iroquois County Sheriff’s Office. A U.S. Army Gulf War veteran, she dedicated much of her life to public service.

She is survived by her wife, father, five sisters, and one brother.
