Back in March 2016, a group of community advocates got together and discussed how to help support and improve the local community.

Fast-forward 10 years, and PUNS celebrated this milestone anniversary at The Apprentice Restaurant, hosted by TAFE NSW - Ultimo, a valued PUNS member. We were generously sponsored by Community Bank Darling Square, another valued member.

Our guest-of-honour, Lord Mayor Clover Moore, delivered a wonderful keynote address that outlined the community impact of PUNS, and how City of Sydney supports PUNS members with venues, grants, and community activations.

Members and guests reflected on the power of Collaboration, Connection, and Coordination, which allows our member organisations to have an impact that is greater than the sum of its parts.

If you are a community advocate or organisation that focuses on the Pyrmont and Ultimo (and surrounding) suburbs, check out https://puns.org.au/ and come join our monthly meetings, held on the first Tuesday of each month.

An unexpected honour from Kobi Shetty MP in recognising PUNS in the Parliament of NSW.

This Community Recognition Statement acknowledges the work our member organisations contribute to our local area, as well as the power of the monthly PUNS meetings to Connect, Coordinate, and Collaborate.

Thank you Kobi, for always having a representative attend our meetings and for your regular guest appearances.

If you are an organisation that serves the community and would like to attend, send us a message.

In addition to our members, we have guest speakers that attend each month and share their updates and community impact.

We welcomed the local member for the Pyrmont/Ultimo area Kobi Shetty MP from The Greens NSW to inform us about parliamentary talks related to;
- the new Pyrmont Fish Markets and related developments
- Transport issues with the 501 bus affecting school children
- Wentworth Park Greyhound lease
- Safe Streets campaign (lowering community speed limits to 30km/h in shared zones)

We are thankful to have such an available and receptive MP take time out of her busy schedule to attend.

Also pictured is member Kelly Noble from the Lord Mayor's office, and Alan Lau from Velocity Empowerment

If you're a community organisation or service that would like to attend PUNS in August, message us.

Earlier this month at our PUNS meeting, we heard from our valued member https://communitybanksydney.com/

Did you know that most of their profits are dedicated to funding community initiatives and projects? They have directly supported some of the members of PUNS, and many events and projects that you will see in the Ultimo, Pyrmont, and Haymarket areas.

If you would like to change banks, they will send a staff member to assist you at your home or business!

One of the key purposes of PUNS is connection, and we love to hear stories of how our members demonstrate this.

Ultimo Community Garden reported piloting an early education program for Golden Wattle pre-schoolers by showing them how food is grown and connecting them to what they eat. If all goes well, this can be expanded to other preschools in the area.

They are also partnering with UTS Enviro Collective to expand the composting arrangements with the goal of sharing free compost with the neighbourhood.

If you want to green your thumb, join the community garden on a Sunday morning

30 students from TAFE and 3 of their enthusiastic teachers visited to talk about the garden, including how the garden works, how it benefits the community and the type of crops grown. They seemed to enjoy themselves and their interest was extremely encouraging. Here's a photo of some of the students...
