Building the right teams and retaining top talent are priorities of all leaders, however it’s all easier said than done.

These insights and perspectives alone can be enough to trigger a new idea or mentality that puts you on the trajectory that you want

How do you attract and retain top talent? Is it through culture, compensation, or a mixture of both? We’d love to know your thoughts 💭

“What keeps me coming back is the previous one.”

That says a lot.

This isn’t about surface-level mingling. It’s about being in a room with people who are care about building, leading, and shaping what’s next.

At Uncommon Lunches, the focus is on real conversations, shared perspectives, and leaders exchanging ideas that translate intol action.

On Friday, March 27, Anthony Ryan from Brisbane Economic Development Agency will join Verity Consulting Partners to unpack the State of the City and what Brisbane’s next growth phase means for business and leadership.

This won’t be another generic keynote. Expect practical insights, grounded discussion, and clear takeaways to help you positions yourself for what’s ahead.

If there’s one business event you go to this year, make it this one 👇🏼

Do you have a mentor?

Going it alone might your strategy, but chances are you might be missing the valuable insights of a fresh perspective, or someone who’s walked the same roads before.

This question from Jo Grubwinkler at our last Uncommon Lunch sparked varying responses from our panel around mentorship and how you can simply learn from those around you.

What’s your strategy? Do you have specific mentors, a board, or do you simply learn by osmosis?

"It's just typical Brisbane with amazing collaboration."

We couldn't have said it better ourselves, Demelza!

Through her work at Brisbane Economic Development Agency, Demelza works tirelessly to enhance Brisbane's global profile and economic sustainability.

Our next Uncommon Lunch carries that same theme of prosperity in Brisbane, with Anthony Ryan, CEO at BEDA, taking the stage to share insights on emerging opportunities and what they mean for business owners and leaders across the city.

If you're looking to make connections and get a head start on Brisbane's next phase of growth, make sure you're in the room.

Unfortunately, ChatGPT can’t run your whole business for you.

There’s no doubting the power of AI and it’s surrounding technlogy, which is developing at lightspeed.

Some of the problems we face though, need that human element to put all the pieces together.

AI is an exceptional collaborator, but it needs to remain the tool and not the driver.

The next time you have decisions to make in your business, use AI to its full potential, but make sure you have people to lean on and go to for advice to help you put all the pieces together.

Great events are built on great connections, great conversations, and great speakers.

Now more than ever, it matters to be in the right rooms, building the right relationships, and moving alongside the right people.

As regular Uncommon Lunch attendee Luke Gear puts it: “What do you have to lose?”

The honest answer? Very little.

The upside? Potentially everything.

With the pace of change accelerating, those who stay connected and informed are the ones best positioned for what’s next. Meaningful relationships and shared insights aren’t just nice to have — they’re how you prepare for the future.

Hopefully, you haven’t given up on your goals already this year.

Often, we dont necessarily give up on our goals, but sometimes we are trying to achieve new goals with the same frameworks that we’ve always used.

The question you need to ask yourself is “What am I willing to remove?”

Sometimes less is more and you need to create space for great things to happen.

What are you going to give up this year, to achieve your goals for 2026?

Don’t miss out on your Uncommon Lunch ticket.

Take it from Lana, from Walker Hill Digital. She’s one of the OG’s, who’s came to the very first Uncommon Lunch back in 2020.

Mentors, clients and personal growth have all been takeaways since she’s been coming to our events.

With so much opportunity in our amazing city at the moment, make sure you don’t miss out on an afternoon of connection, inspiration and knowledge at our next Uncommon Lunch.

Anthony Ryan called it in 2023.

Brisbane's trajectory as a leading Australian city. The infrastructure pipeline. The Olympic effect on investment and growth.

Now he's back at our Uncommon Lunch to unpack what's next.

As CEO of the Brisbane Economic Development Agency, Anthony sits at the intersection of government, industry, and capital.

He'll walk the room through BEDA's latest State of the City report and translate what it means for business leaders operating across Brisbane and South East Queensland.

Verity Partners will then join the conversation with practical perspectives on how to position your organisation to move early and move well.

This is a curated, senior-level discussion designed for business owners, CEOs, and executives who want clarity on where opportunity is emerging and how to capitalise on it decisively.

The sale isn’t the finish line.

It’s when the real test begins.

Many founders build toward an exit as if it’s the moment they finally step away.

In reality, earn-outs, holdbacks, and retention clauses usually mean staying on for another two to three years — running the very business you’ve just sold, often when your energy is already depleted.

If the business still depends on you being fully present, if the systems only work when you’re switched on, or if the team isn’t ready to carry more weight, that final stretch becomes significantly harder.

Real exit planning happens long before the sale.

It’s about systems that operate without heroics, a capable leadership team, and resilience built in — so the business performs even when you can’t be the engine anymore.

The businesses that transition well are built to run when the founder needs to coast, not only when they’re at full capacity.

Are you building that kind of business?

07/01/2026

There’s a lot of pressure to have your exit strategy mapped out from day one.

It’s often one of the first questions asked by investors, advisers, or mentors who’ve been through a sale themselves.
But what if that pressure is actually working against you?

When every decision is optimised for a future exit, it can quietly undermine the very things that make a business resilient: culture, systems, trusted relationships, and the ability to withstand uncertainty.

Yes, businesses can be built for sale from the outset.
But the most saleable businesses are built on intention, integrity, and sustainability first.

The exit becomes possible because of that foundation — not despite it.

So what’s really driving your decisions?

The life you’re building, or the exit you’re planning?

05/01/2026

What if you died and met the person you had the potential to be?

That can be a slightly confronting thought, but also one that spurs action.

Being your most authentic self can make the world of difference in your business and your life. When you act in alignment with who you truly are, you bring out the best in yourself and also those around you.

The keys are having the desire, surrounding yourself with others who think similarly and having self-compassion.

In reality, it’s more of a journey rather than a destination.

With a new year upon us, how will you show up more often as your authentic self in 2026?
