Back at the desk after a lovely long break with plenty of hikes and beach swims. The photo is my husband and I on a short break without the kids!

Here’s a confidence building prompt to start off the year:
The best medicine for nerves, anxiety, worry or stage fright is being able to laugh at yourself. Have fun learning. Enjoy the process!

I hope 2025 has plenty of laughs while learning for you.

As the year draws to a close, it’s natural to pause and reflect on the challenges and changes we’ve faced. This year, I think of two business owners who made the incredibly tough decision to close part or all of their businesses due to lack of profitability. One, an NDIS-focused business, found ...

In my latest blog I talk about my journey with chronic nerve pain after a severe case of shingles, and how persevering through it has grown me - as a human being, and a leader.

As leaders, we need to recognise the often unseen suffering that we and/or our people are going through. Creating a culture of inclusivity and psychological safety in the workplace is not only good for team performance, but now also a legal requirement.

My Chronic Pain Story of Grit and GraceFor over eight months, I've been quietly enduring chronic physical pain. At first, I felt ashamed of my "ailment" in a world that prizes strength, capability, and the idea that if something’s broken, it should be fixed. But what if it can’t be fixed—or ta...

A throw back to one of my first videos when I also did Life Coaching. These questions are relevant for executive leaders and business owners. Tell me in the comments what your answers are! My leadership coaching is still very holistic in nature. I said to a client today: "You have to watch out when you get coaching as it can be completely life changing."

Last Friday, I got to ask a group of women in business here in the Illawarra, whether they were too fearful to showcase their business by taking up public speaking opportunities. What followed, was an amazing level of vulnerability amongst the ladies on the panel that were interviewed about the benefits of facing fears, stepping up, and generally putting themselves out there - something us ladies are not often keen to do.

Something many don't know about me, is that I am up to my 4th business now, and my 1st one was called "Speaking Matters" where I trained people in public speaking, presentation skills, networking skills, train-the-trainer etc. My first profession (too many years ago to count now) was as a Speech Pathologist. I later went on to do a Masters in Adult Education, so this was a business that combined the two.

If you have any need for speech training, or just general confidence to promote your business by taking up networking and speaking opportunities, I'd be delighted to help. Reach out, and we'll talk about what works best for you.

The fear of rejection looms large, making it tough to put yourself out there. While a few thrive on these high-pressure situations, most of us face at least some level of anxiety. For some, it’s a manageable unease that they push through, knowing the rewards are worth it. But for others, the fear can be so overwhelming that they avoid these situations altogether.

The good news is that you can take actionable steps to overcome this fear and regain your confidence. In my latest blog I take you through three practical tips to help you manage and conquer the fear of rejection.

A Development Plan is often tacked onto the end of Performance Review paperwork, but there are drawbacks to this approach. For instance, often there's only one meeting allocated for the performance discussion, leaving little room to delve into development opportunities. Unless the employee already has specific development goals in mind or there's a pre-existing company strategy they fit into, they're usually just told to "think about it and get back to me," and that follow-up chat never happens.

That's why I recommend creating a separate document, policy, and procedure for discussing professional development plans with each team member. This ensures dedicated time to focus solely on their growth and progress.

Let's discuss best practice for reviewing policies and procedures for Performance Reviews and Professional Development Plans. If you're running a small business, chances are you still need to put these in place. If you're part of a larger organisation, it's crucial to keep them updated to match the....
