A quick reminder for today: at approximately 2:00 pm, compatible mobile devices across Gippsland may vibrate and play a loud alert sound for around 10 seconds.

This may happen even if a device is on silent or Do Not Disturb. The message will clearly say it is an AusAlert national test, and no action is required.

If someone nearby may be surprised or unsettled by the sound, a calm heads-up now will help.

For hidden safety devices, follow the official safety guidance: switch them off or into aeroplane mode by 1:00 pm and keep them that way for 24 hours.

Monday's AusAlert test will happen in the middle of the day, when many people will be at work, school, childcare or receiving care.

Childcare centres, schools, care services, clinics, libraries and other quiet spaces may have several compatible devices nearby, including staff phones, some Android tablets and smart watches.

If a sudden sound could disturb children, sleeping babies or people who are sensitive to noise, let them know about the test beforehand. Consider switching non-essential compatible devices off or into aeroplane mode before 2:00 pm and leaving them that way until after 3:00 pm.

The alert sound is expected to last around 10 seconds. It is only a test and no action is required.

One part of Monday's test deserves a little extra care.

A hidden safety phone may sound, vibrate and wake its screen during the 2:00 pm test, even if it is set to silent or Do Not Disturb.

The official safety advice is to switch the device completely off or place it in aeroplane mode by 1:00 pm on Monday, then keep it that way for 24 hours.

Please share this information privately where appropriate, and do not tag anyone who may rely on a hidden device.

Just a calm heads-up for Monday.

At approximately 2:00 pm on Monday 27 July, the Australian Government will run a nationwide test of AusAlert.

Compatible phones and some tablets and smart watches may vibrate and play a siren-like sound for around 10 seconds, even if they are set to silent or Do Not Disturb.

The message will clearly say it is a test. No action is required.

It is worth letting family, staff and anyone who may be startled by the sound know in advance.
