The Saddler By Matt Wharton

Matt learnt the Saddlery Trade at Hiscocks Saddlery in Queanbeyan, NSW from 1974 to 1979. He then moved to Alice Springs and started as a Saddle & H arness Maker and opened his own Saddlery. Matt competed with his horses in Equestrian events such as Camp drafting, Polo-X, stock horse challenge and in later - more fragile years - extending his hobby to Western Dressage

English Dressage and Western events, Rider classes and hacking. Matt uses only the best leather from around the world to create his custom saddles and strapping, which is mostly hand stitched with extensive attention to detail . He specialises in Swinging Fender, Half Breed, Western
and traditional Australian saddles. Custom saddle orders include a saddle fitting on your horse so the saddle tree is a perfect fit for horse & rider (this can be done with measurements and style of horse for interstate clients). No job is too big or too small from girth strap replacements to custom made saddle with silver plating and personalised carvings . The significance of proper saddle fitting cannot be overstated, as a correctly fitted saddle makes a substantial difference. Notably, Jordy recently made her first saddle from us a month ago. Jordy and her new saddle have since made a successful debut in the show ring, competing directly in the state championship where they achieved an outstanding result. Take out the trophy.
This impressive performance was marked by a buckle and first-place finish in her group. A key factor in this success was the correct saddle fit, which enabled Jordy to maintain optimal balance with her shoulder, hips, and heels aligned. Consequently, the saddle also allowed the horse to move freely in its stride.
