🚨 BREAKING NEWS: Australia Introduces New 12-Month Provider Transfer Restriction for International Students! 🇦🇺

Effective 2 October 2026, Australia has temporarily increased the provider transfer restriction from 6 months to 12 months for most international students under the National Code 2018.

Here’s what international students need to know:
✅ The new restriction generally requires students to complete at least 12 months of their principal course before transferring to another registered education provider without an applicable exception.
✅ Students who have already completed 6 months but not 12 months of their principal course may also be affected.
✅ The amendment specifically concerns transfers between education providers, not course changes within the same provider. However, other requirements may still apply.
✅ Different rules apply to certain school-sector students.
✅ The restriction is temporary. Under the current legislation, the 6-month period is scheduled to return from 1 July 2027.
✅ Earlier transfers may still be permitted in certain circumstances, including an approved release from the current provider, provider or course registration issues, relevant sanctions, or written support from a government sponsor.

⚠️ IMPORTANT: This is not a complete ban on changing courses or education providers. Individual circumstances, visa conditions and applicable exceptions must be considered.

Before making any decisions about transferring colleges or universities, seek appropriate guidance from your education provider or a registered migration agent.
