Tourism Australia, Austrade and State and Territory Tourism Organisations have released an overview of the European Unionโ€™s Empowering Consumers for the Green Transition Directive, to support the Australian tourism industry prepare for the upcoming changes. The Directive introduces new requirements for environmental and social claims made to consumers, with its rules starting from 27 September 2026.

The EU rules are prescriptive in several key areas that may differ to the Australian requirements, including sustainability labelling, and claims about carbon neutrality and future performance. The Overview is designed to help businesses understand the changes and review their marketing and communications with confidence.

The runners may have crossed the finish line, but the impact of the 2026 Yeppoon Running Festival was felt well beyond the course, with local businesses reporting one of their biggest trading days of the year.

Held across 25โ€“26 July, this yearโ€™s festival attracted 2,852 registered competitors, with an estimated 5,893 people attending across the weekend when accompanying family and friends are included.
