SOIL PROFILE is pleased to inform the students/professionals of civil engineering that a short course on computer-aided building design will be started from February 15.
Course Name
A Short Course on Computer-Aided Building Design: Application of ETABS
Background of the course
Civil Engineering is considered the oldest branch of engineering that has dealt with infrastructure development since the beginning of history. The infrastructure development requires selecting the type of materials used, size of the components, and eventually, an obligatory task is to check the overall stability under different extreme conditions. That’s actually the kick-off point of Reinforced Concrete Structure (RCC). In recent decades, most of the infrastructures are RCC typed ranges from low rise to high rise structures. Moreover, Bangladesh, a rapidly growing developing country, has many moderate to high-rise structures under construction, yet the demand for structures is pretty high. Therefore, the appropriate engineering knowledge for the safe and sustainable design of medium to high rise infrastructure is an obligatory issue for a fresh engineer. The conventional academic curriculum in the university mainly highlights the fundamental knowledge of mechanics, and the practical application is seldom found. Besides that, the advent of computational techniques allows us to use sophisticated software for structural design within a limited deadline. Especially, ETABS, which is a popular software package for structural analysis and design, has got huge coverage in our country. Hence, putting a spotlight on this burning issue of real-world civil engineering, SOIL PROFILE offered a comprehensive course in structural engineering. The primary aim of this course is to address the unforeseen issue in structural design, and subsequently, teach the application of Finite Element Model-based ETABS software for the rational and safe design of structures.
Outcome of the Course
After successful completion of this course, the trainee will be able
a) To gather fundamental knowledge of mechanics which is a pre-requisite for structural analysis and design
b) To design basic structural components such as beams, columns, slab, footing as per our conventional code of practices
c) To analyze any types of structure in ETABS
d) To design any types of structure in ETABS
e) To design foundation by using SAFE/SAP 2000
f) To get fundamental knowledge in soil mechanics and foundation engineering
