Palmal group donated 1 million taka to BKMEA to enhance the social responsibility initiative taken by BKMEA.

Md. Emdad Hossain, director, production, Palmal group handed over the bank check to BKMEA president Mohammad Hatem on behalf of Managing director of Palmal group Mr. Nafis Sikdar. Executive president Mr. Fazlee Shamim Ehsan was also present at the occasion. The event was held at BKMEA Dhaka office today (31 October 2024).

BKMEA president Mohammad Hatem appreciated the initiative and urged to the big industries to come forward to ensure the social responsibilities for the society.

BKMEA member Masco Group and Urmi Group achieved the Textile Innovation Awards-2024 for the contribution to the garments processing and product development respectively.

Brig Gen (Retd) Dr. M Sakhawat Hussain, advisor to the Ministry of Jute and Textiles, was present as the chief guest.

BKMEA President Mohammad Hatem was one of the the special guests of the program and handed over the trophy to the winners along with the chief guest at Dhaka Regency Hotel on Saturday (October 26).

Aiming to honor the innovations in the textile and apparel industry in Bangladesh, Textile Today arranged the event.

This is the 8th season of this event.

A roundtable titled on "Implementing GRI in the RMG Sector of Bangladesh", held at The Daily Star Centre on 24 October jointly organized by The Daily Star and Swisscontact.

BKMEA vice-president Mr. Akhter Hossain Apurbo and Mohammad Rashed were present at the event.
Mr. Apurbo, said local exporters are eager to learn how to increase trade while adhering to rules and regulations.

Bangladesh's graduation from the group of least developed countries to a developing nation in 2026 may pose a challenge because of the erosion of trade preference that the country enjoys given its current status he added.

Mohammad Rashed, another vice-president of BKMEA, said huge costs are associated with the implementation of such initiatives.

Moreover, different buyers raise different compliance issues. But many small and medium enterprises do not have the capability to implement those rules and become more compliant.

BKMEA vice president Mohammad Rashed handed over the certificate to the students of American international University of Bangladesh (AIUB) for the completion of nine days training program on ‘garment technology and lean manufacturing’ in BKMEA.

Director Mr. Minhazul Hoque was also present at the event.

The occasion held at the BKMEA Dhaka office today. BKMEA high officials were also present at the event. 25 students of AIUB participated in this training program.

Employment Injury Scheme (EIS) is underway as a pilot project to secure the socio economic life for the RMG workers who are injured at the workplace.

To introduce the project to the concerned officials of BKMEA member factories, an orientation program is held at BKMEA Dhaka office on 24 October 2024. Mr.
Minhazul Hoq, director, BKMEA was present at the program.

On the other hand Mr. Saad Gilani, chief technical advisor, EIS, ILO; Shofikul Islam, Advisor, EIS; Syed Moazzem Hussain, Senior Social Protection Advisor, GIZ and the officials form BKMEA were present on the occasion.

More than 30 participants from knitwear factories attended the program and discussed various aspects of the EIS pilot project in an open discussion.
EIS is being propelled from the office of this pilot project located at labor building (Shram Bhavan) in Bijoynagor, Dhaka.

International Labor Organization (ILO) and GIZ initiated the project which is being drove by BKMEA and BGMEA.

There is a tripartite council to manage the project including the representatives from the factory owners, workers and the government. It is working under the Ministry of Labor and Employment.

India's RMG exports grew by 17.3 percent year-on-year in September, capitalizing on political instability in Bangladesh.

"India's RMG exports have recorded high growth despite global headwinds and inflationary pressures," said Sudhir Sekhri, chairman of the Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC).

"Many leading apparel exporters have experienced a slowdown in recent months, but India has benefitted from Bangladesh's socio-political unrest", he added.
According to a report from Care Ratings, if the unrest continues for more than one or two quarters in Bangladesh exporters could face significant challenges in meeting deadlines.

This disruption could create opportunities for Indian exporters to capture monthly orders worth $200-250 million in the short term.

The growth comes despite global challenges such as inflation and supply chain disruptions, which have impacted other major garment-exporting nations, the report states

নারায়ণগঞ্জে বিসিক শিল্প নগরীর একটি তৈরি পোশাক কারখানা পরিদর্শন করেছেন বাংলাদেশে নিযুক্ত নেদারল্যান্ডের রাষ্ট্রদূত ইরমা ভ্যান ডুরেন।

শনিবার (১৯ অক্টোবর) তিনি এই পরিদর্শনে আসেন।

পরিদর্শন শেষে নেদারল্যান্ডের রাষ্ট্রদূত ইরমা ভ্যান ডুরেন বলেন, বাংলাদেশের তৈরি পোশাক খাত উৎপাদনে খুব ভালো অবস্থানে রয়েছে। বাংলাদেশের সরকার এ খাতে সহায়তা বাড়িয়ে দিলে তৈরি পোশাক উৎপাদনে বাংলাদেশ আরো ভালো করবে।

বিকেএমইএ সভাপতি মোহাম্মদ হাতেম জানান, নেদারল্যান্ড বাংলাদেশের পোশাক শিল্পের বিভিন্ন ব্র্যান্ড নিয়ে কাজ করে।

সারাবিশ্বে বাংলাদেশের পোশাক খাত একটি বড় অবস্থান তৈরি করেছে। রাষ্ট্রদূতের এই সফর তারই বহিপ্রকাশ।

A collaboration meeting between BKMEA and Shojag Coalition held at BKMEA Dhaka office today (16 October, 2024).

The program is chaired by BKMEA president Mr. Mohammad Hatem and the senior vice president Mr. Mansoor Ahmed was also present at the event.

Shojag is a coalition consisting of BLAST, Naripokkho and Christian Aid formed in 2017 to end the gender based violence at workplace in the country.

BKMEA president appreciated such initiative of Shojag. He said the scenario in garment sector has been changed from the past days. The workers are very much aware about their rights now a days and the owners are willing to establish the all the law at their factories. BKMEA is working on this issue science 2006 by the formation of compliance cell in BKMEA. He urged to the team from Shojag to aware the worker about the responsibilities besides the right as well.

Senior vice president Mr. Mansoor Ahmed described the present scenario of RMG sector and urged the team to highlight some more issues related to the sector. BKMEA is eager to cooperate this initiative he added.

আগামী তিন বছরে রপ্তানি আয়কে আড়াই গুণে উন্নীত করতে চায় সরকার। কিন্তু গত দুই মাস ধরে দেশের রপ্তানি আয়ের প্রধান উৎস তৈরি পোশাক খাতে বিরাজ করছে অস্থিরতা।

এতে উৎপাদন কমেছে ৩০ শতাংশ। অন্যদিকে রয়েছে সময় মতো পণ্য রপ্তানি না পারার শঙ্কা। ফলে আস্থা হারাচ্ছে বায়ার। এরই মধ্যে হাতছাড়া হয়েছে ২০-২৫ শতাংশ অর্ডার।

তৈরি পোশাক খাতের বর্তমান অবস্থা নিয়ে চ্যানেল টোয়েন্টি ফোরের সাথে কথা বলেছেন বিকেএমইএ সভাপতি মোহাম্মদ হাতেম, জানিয়েছেন বিভিন্ন শঙ্কার কথা।

Garment Technology and Lean Manufacturing' training program has been started at BKMEA training center. 25 students of American International University of Bangladesh (AIUB) participated in this nine-day training program.

BKMEA Vice President Mohammad Rashed exchanged his views with the participating students today. It was held at the Institute of apparel research and technology (iART, 17 floor, planers tower, Banglamotor, Dhaka).

He shared his enormous experience in the knitwear sector on the occasion and expressed his expectations as well. Besides, he answered various questions of the trainees on the program.

Senior officials of BKMEA were present at this time.
