Major Carp Dominance and Eon Aquaculture’s Sustainable Approach

In Bangladesh, major carps—and carps in general—are the most dominant species in the aquaculture sector. However, despite their importance, the quality of seed and fry production often falls short of optimal standards. One of the key constraints behind this issue is poor brood management.

Broodstock management is a critical task that requires proper technical skills and focused management capacity. Without healthy and well-maintained broodstock, the entire production chain suffers, ultimately affecting yield, profitability, and sustainability.

Eon TBN (Tilapia Breeding Nucleus) Center is the only facility in Bangladesh that produces New Generation Tilapia Brood. Currently, Eon has imported Generation 19 (G-19) GIFT Tilapia from the WorldFish Research Center in Penang, Malaysia. The G-19 strain is expected to have up to 60% faster growth compared to regular GIFT Tilapia.

WorldFish and Eon have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), making Eon the only private sector organization in Bangladesh authorized to receive and distribute this broodstock.
