Open your books and look at how much sits in "Miscellaneous," "Other," or "General expenses." For most businesses, it's more than they expect and every pound in there is doing nothing for you.
👉Here's why it matters more than it sounds.
1️⃣Vague categories weaken your claims. A properly categorised business expense has a clear purpose behind it. A "miscellaneous" one has to be explained later, from memory, often long after the details have faded.
2️⃣Hidden spending can't be managed. You can't reduce a cost you can't see. If software, fees, and travel are all pooled together, no pattern ever surfaces and patterns are where the savings live.
3️⃣And reports built on guesses stay guesses. Your P&L is only as meaningful as the categories underneath it.
When we take over books, dissolving the misc pile is usually week one. It almost always surfaces money that was already there.
