যাঁরা হারিয়ে যান, তাঁরা কী সত্যি হারিয়ে যায়? না, তাঁরা চিরস্মরণীয় হয়ে থাকে তাঁদের কর্মে, আত্মত্যাগে। তেমনি বাঙ্গালীর মনে শ্রদ্ধায়, সম্মানে চিরস্থায়ী হয়ে আছেন শহীদ বুদ্ধিজীবীরা। বিজয়ের দ্বারপ্রান্তে এসে পাকিস্তানি হানাদার বুঝতে পারে পরাজয় নিশ্চিত তাই পরিকল্পনা করে বাংলার শ্রেষ্ঠ সন্তানদের হত্যার। মেধা শূন্যের উদ্দেশ্যে, শিক্ষক, চিকিৎসক, প্রকৌশলী, সাংবাদিক এবং সাহিত্যিকসহ বাংলার মেধাবী সন্তানদের নির্মমভাবে হত্যা করে পাকিস্তানি দোসর। বুদ্ধিজীবীদের মধ্যে রয়েছেন মুনির চৌধুরী, শহিদুল্লাহ কায়সার, ড: ফজলে রাব্বী, সেলিনা পারভীন এবং অধ্যাপক সন্তোষ ভট্টাচার্য্যসহ আরো অনেকে। তাঁদের আত্মত্যাগের বিনিময়ে এই দেশ আজ স্বাধীন, কিন্তু তাঁদের শূন্যতা অপূরণীয়। আজ বুদ্ধিজীবী দিবসে বাঙ্গালী জাতির শ্রেষ্ঠ সন্তানদের প্রতি বিনম্র শ্রদ্ধা।
