We are happy to share that on 25 November, The Daily Star covered the launch of the IP Management Clinic for SMEs in Dhaka — a milestone toward strengthening innovation and IP awareness.

The launch of the clinic marks a step towards strengthening the use of intellectual property by SMEs in Bangladesh and supporting innovation in the sector.

The IP Management Clinic Program for SMEs was inaugurated on 24 November 2025 at Hotel FARS, Dhaka, marking an important national effort to strengthen intellectual property practices in the SME sector. The initiative was jointly arranged by DPDT and WIPO, with strategic support from the Japan Patent Office (JPO). BIM contributed as a key partner, offering technical guidance and training to enhance SME preparedness in managing IP assets.

The program focused on empowering SMEs with practical knowledge on:
• Understanding the fundamentals of Intellectual Property (IP)
• Designing IP strategies aligned with business goals
• Managing intangible assets such as brand, innovation and know-how
• Using WIPO tools for SME development & assessment

A total of 20 SMEs from different industries across Bangladesh joined the program. Through expert mentorship, group discussions, and networking, participants gained deeper insights into how effective IP management can accelerate innovation and business competitiveness.

At the inaugural ceremony, Md Obaidur Rahman, Secretary of the Ministry of Industries, delivered an inspiring message, noting:

“This program equips entrepreneurs with the resources and guidance needed to manage intellectual assets. A robust IP system will play a crucial role in boosting competitiveness and innovation as Bangladesh advances beyond LDC status.”

Mentoring for the session was led by WIPO LLM fellows — Mr. Ataul Karim, Dr. Mohammad Nazmi Newaz, and Mr. Mohammad Sayeedur Rahman. Md Belal Hossain, Assistant Director of DPDT, moderated the proceedings.

Through initiatives like this, BIM continues its mission of empowering professionals, strengthening collaboration between government and the private sector, and supporting the development of a forward-looking, innovation-driven supply chain ecosystem in Bangladesh.
