A seminar titled “Gen-Z Electoral Politics in South Asia: Divergent Youth Outcomes in Nepal and Bangladesh” was held on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at 11:30 AM in the conference room of the Department of Political Studies at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology. The event was organized by the research initiative Election Lab. Professor Dr. S. M. Ali Reza attended the seminar as the Chief Guest. The Head of the Department, faculty members, and students were also present at the seminar.

The “Tea and the World Elegant Gathering” was organized by the Chinese Corner of the Department of Political Studies at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology in collaboration with the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Bangladesh on 16 May 2026. The event was attended by the Honorable Vice-Chancellor and Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the university, the Cultural Counselor of the Chinese Embassy, the Director of the Confucius Institute at the University of Dhaka, as well as teachers, officials, and academic staff from various departments of the university.

On 19 April, 2026 the Bangla Department of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) organized a seminar on Rabindra practice in the subcontinent. Professor D**g Youchen, a distinguished Chinese Rabindra scholar, translator, and former professor of Beijing Foreign Studies University, delivered a speech at the event. I was also invited to speak on the occasion.

বিএনপি'র দুই মাসের সফলতা এবং চ্যালেঞ্জ নিয়ে কথা বলেছি দৈনিক কাল বেলায় (১৮ এপ্রিল ,২০২৬) ।
আমি বলেছি: গত দুই মাসে বিএনপি সরকার গঠনের পর তাদের পারফরম্যান্সে ইতিবাচক ও নেতিবাচক—উভয় দিকই পরিলক্ষিত হচ্ছে। সবচেয়ে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ দিক হলো সংসদে আলোচনা সংস্কৃতির পুনরুজ্জীবন। বিভিন্ন বিষয়ে সংসদ সদস্যরা কথা বলার সুযোগ পাচ্ছেন, যা গণতান্ত্রিক চর্চার জন্য ইতিবাচক ইঙ্গিত বহন করে। নির্বাচনী ইশতেহারে দেওয়া কিছু প্রতিশ্রুতির বাস্তবায়নও শুরু হয়েছে—যেমন গরিব ও দুস্থ মানুষের জন্য সহায়তা কার্ড, কৃষকদের জন্য কৃষক কার্ড, এবং খাল খনন কর্মসূচি। এসব উদ্যোগ সাধারণ মানুষের মধ্যে আস্থা তৈরি করেছে।

প্রধানমন্ত্রীর ব্যক্তিগত আচরণ—সরল জীবনযাপন, সংযত বক্তব্য, যানজটে সাধারণ মানুষের মতো অপেক্ষা করা, এমনকি ছুটির দিনেও কাজ করা—এগুলো ইতিবাচক জনমত গঠনে ভূমিকা রাখছে।

তবে নেতিবাচক দিকও রয়েছে। দ্রব্যমূল্য এখনো নিয়ন্ত্রণে আসেনি, যা সাধারণ মানুষের জন্য বড় উদ্বেগের বিষয়। জ্বালানি তেলের সংকট নিয়ে সরকারের বক্তব্য ও বাস্তবতার মধ্যে অসামঞ্জস্য দেখা যাচ্ছে। বাংলাদেশ ব্যাংকে গভর্ণর নিয়োগসংক্রান্ত বিতর্কও সরকারের ভাবমূর্তিকে প্রশ্নবিদ্ধ করছে। পাশাপাশি “জুলাই সনদ” ও গণভোট ইস্যুতে সরকারের অস্পষ্ট অবস্থান জনমনে বিভ্রান্তি সৃষ্টি করেছে। কিছু ব্যাংকে সাবেক লুটেরা ফিরে আসছে বলে জানা যাচ্ছে।

Two-Day Youth Digital Engagement Workshop Begins at SUST

A two-day (17 and 18th April) training workshop titled “Developing Youth Competencies for Safe and Responsible Digital Engagement” commenced at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST), Sylhet.

Supported by UNESCO, the program is jointly organized by the Election Lab, Department of Political Studies (SUST), the ULAB Centre for Critical and Qualitative Studies (CQS), and Fact Watch. The opening session was held at the New Social Science Building with participation from academics, researchers, and students.

The inaugural session was graced by Vice-Chancellor Dr. A. M. Sarwaruddin Chowdhury as Chief Guest. Pro-Vice Chancellor Dr. Md Shajedul Karim attended as Special Guest, while Treasurer Dr. Md Ismail Hossain was also present. The session was chaired by Dr. Md Nazrul Islam, Head(In-charge), Dept of Political Studies)

The program began with remarks by Director of Election Lab Dr. Md Shahabul Haque, followed by a welcome speech from Deputy Director of Election Lab Dr. Zayeda Sharmin. Presentations were delivered by Noor Hasnat Emon and ENESCO lead Shakil Foysal, alongside Md. Riaz Uddin Khan, faculty of ULAB. A goodwill speech was given by Dr. Md Monirul Islam, Director, Iternational Center.

The workshop focuses on strengthening youth skills in safe digital practices, critical evaluation of information, and responsible online engagement. Activities continued through interactive sessions and discussions on the following day.

আজ ২৬ মার্চ (বৃহস্পতিবার) শাহজালাল বিজ্ঞান ও প্রযুক্তি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়, সিলেটের উদ্যোগে মহান স্বাধীনতা ও জাতীয় দিবস উপলক্ষে আয়োজিত আলোচনা সভায় আমি বক্তব্য উপস্থাপন করি। বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের মিনি অডিটোরিয়ামে মাননীয় উপাচার্য, প্রো-উপাচার্যসহ অন্যান্য অতিথিবৃন্দ উপস্থিত ছিলেন।

Chinese Cultural Night

Chinese Culture Night 2026 was celebrated in Dhaka on Monday (March 2).The event, titled “Blessed Horses Welcome Spring,” was jointly organized by the Chinese Embassy in Dhaka and North South University. The co-organizers included the Confucius Institute at North South University and the Bangladesh-China Alumni Association (ABCA).

The program was attended by the State Minister for Education of the Government of Bangladesh, Mr. Bobby Hajjaj; the Minister Counselor of the Chinese Embassy, Dr. Liu Yuyin; and the Vice-Chancellor of North South University, Professor Abdul Hannan Chowdhury, Cultural Counselor of Chinese Embassy Mr. Li Shaping. I was also present on behalf of the alumni association. In addition, diplomats and representatives from various organizations participated in the event.

With the presence of more than one hundred distinguished guests, the evening became lively and festive, reflecting the strong cultural ties between Bangladesh and China.

A webinar titled “Political Transition and Democratic Challenges in Pakistan” will be held tomorrow, 25 February, at 2:30 PM (Bangladesh time). The webinar is being organized as part of the course Politics and Governance in South Asia for the second semester of the third year of the Department of Political Studies.

Dr. Ejaz Hussain, Associate Professor at Lahore School of Economics, Pakistan, will deliver the keynote address. Professor Dr. Md. Nazrul Islam of the Department will be present at the session.
