The Heritage of Handmade Sheetalpati in Bangladesh:
Sheetalpati, an age-old craft from Bangladesh, is more than just a traditional art form; it is a vibrant expression of cultural heritage and communal craftsmanship. The word “sheetal” means cool, and “pati” means mat, thus, sheetalpati literally translates to "cool mat," an apt description for its practical use in the scorching Bangladeshi climate.
The process of creating sheetalpati is both meticulous and labor-intensive. Artisans, often skilled women from rural communities, begin by harvesting palm leaves. These leaves are then carefully cleaned, dried, and split into thin strips.
