In 2024, China’s total garment imports reached USD 10.44 billion, with Bangladesh supplying USD 224.74 million, giving it a market share of around 2.5%. This reflects Bangladesh’s steady but still limited footprint in the Chinese apparel market, which continues to be a key area of opportunity for export growth.
At the same time, China’s domestic fashion industry is dominated by large, well-established brands with strong sales volumes. ANTA led the market with annual revenues of USD 9.8 billion, followed by Bosideng with USD 3.62 billion, and Li-Ning with USD 422 million. These figures highlight the strength of China’s homegrown brands and the scale of competition that international suppliers like Bangladesh face when seeking to expand their presence in the market.

In 2024, the United Arab Emirates imported garments worth USD 3.74 billion, underlining its role as both a major consumer market and a re-export hub for the Middle East. Out of this, Bangladesh contributed USD 231.9 million, securing a 6.2% market share. This positions Bangladesh as a meaningful yet mid-tier sourcing partner for the UAE, leaving considerable room to grow compared to dominant suppliers such as China, India, and Turkey. With its strengths in knitwear, sweaters, and competitive pricing, Bangladesh has an opportunity to expand its footprint by targeting niche segments and strengthening partnerships with UAE retailers.

BAYLA Director Asad Sattar, Founder of Arka Fashion Week and Creative Director of Ami Dhaka, represented Bangladesh at the BRICS+ Fashion Summit (Aug 28–30, 2025, Concert Hall Zaryadye, Moscow) and Moscow Fashion Week (Aug 28–Sept 2, 2025).

In a panel discussion with fashion-week leaders, he said that Bangladesh should not only export garments but also its culture, crafts, stories, and heritage.

“For Bangladesh to export its fashion, we must think beyond garments. What we can and should export is our culture—our crafts, our stories, our heritage—told in contemporary ways.”

He presented his brand Ami Dhaka, describing its philosophy as “Heritage Futurism”—Bangladeshi craft techniques reimagined in modern designs. Each piece is made with care, with even the size labels hand-stitched.

“I wear Dhaka’s history, present, and future on my sleeves—and I’m proud to take that story global.”

At Moscow Fashion Week, Asad Sattar noted how Russian designers combined both tradition and modern ideas. He also emphasized that Arka Fashion Week will continue to connect Bangladeshi designers, models, and creatives with fashion weeks around the world, while inviting international participants to Dhaka.

What’s Next
Arka Fashion Week will be held on Dec 4–7, 2025, at Aloki Convention Center, Dhaka. This will be its fourth and largest edition.

In 2024, Russia imported garments worth USD 32.21 billion, of which imports from Bangladesh totaled USD 326.28 million, securing a modest 1.01% market share. This reflects Bangladesh’s limited but consistent presence in the Russian apparel market, which remains overshadowed by strong domestic players and other global suppliers.
The Russian apparel market is increasingly dominated by homegrown fashion groups, especially as many Western brands have exited. Melon Fashion Group leads with annual sales of around USD 1 billion, followed closely by Gloria Jeans at USD 951 million, while Oodji (OGGI) represents a mid-market segment with sales of approximately USD 64 million. These domestic brands benefit from widespread retail networks and strong consumer recognition, giving them significant leverage in shaping local demand.
