How to make sure that all the relevant actors participate in creating a sustainable Marine Protected Area (MPA)?

Together with the MedPAN-network, we're running a research project on stakeholder involvement in Mediterranean MPA's. The research results will allow MPAs to improve their stakeholder involvement and success.

Fishers, marine tourism, NGO's, local government, ... If you're involved or connected to an MPA in some way, please provide your insights here:

The Collaborative Purpose Engine (CPE) is a powerful tool that brings together stakeholders with a common socio-economic purpose. It helps them understand, align, plan, and implement strategies effectively by providing a structured framework, a catalog of best practices, and tools for collaborative decision-making. It serves as a valuable resource for networks seeking to address complex societal and economic challenges through collaborative efforts.

It's high time we move away from relying on outdated organizational structures from the past decade to tackle contemporary problems! Instead, we need to prioritize collaborative networked organizations as a crucial approach for addressing these challenges.

To effectively solve problems and seize opportunities, consider the following steps:

Embrace collaboration: Foster a culture of collaboration both within and outside the organization. Encourage partnerships, alliances, and networks that allow for shared resources, knowledge exchange, and collective problem-solving.

Build networks: Create and nurture networks of individuals and organizations that can contribute diverse expertise, perspectives, and resources. Emphasize collaboration over hierarchy and encourage cross-pollination of ideas and innovation.

Emphasize agility and adaptability: Networked organizations should be agile and adaptable, capable of quickly responding to changing market conditions and customer demands. This may involve decentralizing decision-making, empowering teams, and promoting a growth mindset.

Leverage technology: Utilize technology platforms and tools that enable seamless collaboration and information sharing across the network. This can enhance communication, coordination, and the ability to collectively solve complex problems.

Encourage knowledge sharing: Facilitate the exchange of knowledge and best practices within the network. Emphasize learning and continuous improvement, creating an environment where expertise is shared freely and learning from both successes and failures is encouraged.

Foster trust and transparency: Build trust among network participants by promoting transparency, open communication, and mutual respect. This creates a foundation for effective collaboration and shared decision-making.

By focusing on collaborative networked organizations, we can tap into the collective intelligence, resources, and capabilities of a diverse ecosystem. This approach enables us to address contemporary challenges more effectively, harness innovation, and drive sustainable growth in today's dynamic business landscape.

Want to know how to grow a cluster?

There are two things you need to take into account:

- The relative asset density within the cluster
- The level of transaction cost reduction within the cluster

If you are able to boost these two indicators, your cluster will launch into stellar performance!

You walk into the office today, just a day like any other day. You say hi to you collegues, you put your coat on the same spot as yesterday.

Let me ask you a couple of questions: How long did it take before you found yourself in an interaction with somebody from another organisation?

Sipping my coffee, something caught my eye in my newsfeed...

As a self-proclaimed network addict, the headline "Why are networks stable?" naturally caught my attention. It's an intriguing question that speaks to the resilience of networks and the factors that contribute to their stability.

A recent publication by researchers from Bar-Ilan University in Israel offers fresh insights into the diversity-stability paradox in networks. According to this paradox, networks can only tolerate a certain level of diversity, and surpassing this threshold can lead to instability and ultimately, collapse of the system.

According to their research, networks can achieve exceptional levels of diversity if this diversity is reflected in the network's structure. Specifically, the network position and number of connections of nodes within the network should be highly unequal. Interestingly, highly diversified networks with a diversified structure are even more stable than homogenous networks, as demonstrated by the results of the study.

The implications of this research can be applied to the European economy, which is characterized by a high level of diversity and a lack of integration. The study provides a compelling argument for policies that promote the local concentration of activities, such as innovation clusters and logistics hubs, in addition to areas with less concentrated activity. By doing so, the European economy can become more resilient and stronger overall, according to the findings of the research.

In my opinion, this is quite impressive. I'd love to hear your thoughts on this! What do you think?

Dear network, I need a bit of crowdsourcing help on this one:

In a research study, we're assessing the operations of the EIT KIC hubs. To go beyond the traditional reporting insights, data that's coming directly from the companies and organisations that collaborate with the KIC's is expected to be valuable.

To enable this, an overview of all the organisations, companies and people that collaborate with the KIC's in some way is crucial. Until now, this overview is nearly impossible to compose based on available data.

So, 2 questions:
- If you're collaborating with one (or more) of the KIC's, please take a couple of minutes to help us building the overview (link below).
- Please forward this to others that you know and that collaborate with the KIC's.

https://wllw.co/GfeYfDCtGi
..you can also indicate that you want to receive the study results... I'm sure this will be interesting!

In the setting of an academic study performed by Antwerp Management School and the University of Antwerp, this form aims to establish an overview of all the companies that collaborate with the EIT KIC's in some way. In a second research step, a comparative study will look at the operational and perf...

Where does the word 'founder' comes from? This explanation makes sense to me:

Founder(s): someone who found out something has value and decided to build a business on top of it....
