This week in Brussels was filled with valuable meetings, discussions and European networking opportunities, culminating with the celebration of Europe Day at the European Parliament.
The week concluded with participation at the Brussels Economic Forum 2026 — the European Commission’s flagship annual economic event — dedicated this year to the topic: “The EU’s AI Economy in the Global Race.”
The Forum gathered leading European and international representatives from policy, economics, business, technology, academia, finance and civil society to discuss the future role of Artificial Intelligence in Europe’s development and competitiveness.
Among the distinguished speakers and contributors were:
• Luc Frieden, Prime Minister of Luxembourg
• Philippe Aghion, Nobel Prize Winner in Economics 2025
• Valdis Dombrovskis, European Commissioner for Economy and Productivity
• Eva Maydell (Paunova), Member of the European Parliament
• Marietje Schaake from Stanford University
as well as senior representatives from Bosch, Infineon, the Open Data Institute, Financial Times and many other important institutions.
The discussions highlighted that Artificial Intelligence is no longer only a technological topic. It is becoming an economic, educational, social and geopolitical priority that will significantly shape Europe’s future.
Particular attention was given to the importance of connecting AI with productivity, entrepreneurship, SMEs, digital skills, industrial transformation, ethical governance and regional innovation ecosystems.
From the perspective of EMKICE KIC and ACRID Network, these discussions are closely connected with ongoing activities related to innovation ecosystems, EU projects, digital transformation, vocational excellence, entrepreneurship and strengthening capacities in EU-candidate and EU-associated countries.
The future AI economy must not remain limited only to large technology hubs and major capitals. It should also create opportunities for startups, SMEs, regions, schools, vocational education, agriculture, energy systems, public institutions and young innovators.
An inspiring and productive week in Brussels, filled with meaningful conversations, strategic ideas and valuable connections for future European cooperation.
