Snøhetta’s Shanghai Grand Opera House will officially open on October 17, 2026.

Now entering its final phase on the banks of the Huangpu River, the 146,786-square-meter complex is defined by a sweeping roof inspired by an unfolding fan. Its surface rises from ground level as a spiraling public staircase, leading to a rooftop plaza designed to remain accessible 24 hours a day, throughout the year.

Inside are three performance venues seating 2,000, 1,200 and 1,000 people, alongside restaurants, galleries, educational spaces, libraries and small cinemas.

The inaugural season will run until February 20, 2027, with 47 productions presented across 82 performances.

This sweeping brick roof is also a rainwater collector.

Passive House by Mareines Arquitetura, located in Campinas, Brazil, is organized around a triangular, cloister-like garden designed as a space for pause and contemplation.

Its exposed-brick roof curves dramatically toward the water, collecting rainwater while helping define the pool and reflecting pool below. Deep eaves, double roof slabs and natural airflow reduce heat gain and allow the interiors to remain comfortable without air conditioning.

The residence also incorporates photovoltaic panels, solar water heating and rainwater reuse, combining sculptural architecture with passive environmental strategies.

Early December has that particular tension in the air: the year is slowing down, yet our days feel fuller, heavier, charged with the rush before the holidays. It’s a moment when we naturally seek softness, calm, and spaces that help us breathe.

Pebble Rubble fits right into this season. Its gentle, stone-like forms carry the quiet of winter landscapes—those smooth, rounded shapes that feel both grounding and comforting.
A place to settle in, release the weight of the day, and pause before the festivities unfold.
In this in-between moment, Pebble Rubble becomes exactly what we need: a spot for waiting, unwinding, and finding balance amid the December rush.
