When most photographers travel to Alaska to photograph brown bears, they bring enormous lenses and the latest digital gear to capture every second of action.

A couple of years ago I decided to try something different.

I packed my 1960s Leica M3, three lenses, and a bag full of film and headed into the Alaskan wilderness with the goal of slowing down and embracing simplicity.

The experience changed the way I thought about photographing wildlife and travel.

Over the years I’ve had more and more photographers reach out with questions about gear, workflow, film vs digital, printing, and building a cohesive body of work.

After more than 20 years behind the camera, I’ve decided to open a limited number of private photography mentorship sessions.

These are focused 1:1 conversations designed to provide clarity, refinement, and direction — whether that’s technical instruction, creative development, or portfolio review.

In 2020, a short film I had made back in 2019 was featured in the F3T. Thank you to all the sponsors and everyone involved.

Seven women are on an adventure of a lifetime; dropped in the Pacific to fish the famous Christmas Island coral atoll. These women experience the remote nature and unforgiving weather that Christmas Island can be known for. Together as a group, they share their experiences, their difficulties and their joys. They have successes and failures all while each sharing their own personal love for fly fishing and talking about what that brings to their lives.

Celebration of Life!!!!!

For everyone that knew the amazing Sam Haydahl aka the “Captain”! We will be holding a celebration of life for him next month. Please feel free to come and join us to celebrate his wonderful life.

Stopped by today . It’s still a creepy place but with a interesting history. I shot 2 rolls of film so we will see what that looks like when developed. For now enjoy some straight out of camera, fujifilm images.

Last year after Picking up my new Nikon z9 mirrorless camera, I suddenly had the ability to shoot 30fps in raw. I asked Gussy if he could get the cast at least somewhat close to me. Of course that was no issue and Gussy threaded the needle! Having gear that doesn’t hinder you but rather enhances your creativity is really important.

Get your camera and lenses close to the water. If your images are not looking dynamic or feel like they are missing something, then sometimes shooting at a lower perspective can change the entire image. .fishing

So far one of my favorite B&W films thus far. ISO 80.
This film is contrasty, it’s punchy. It crushes the blacks and it’s super intentional! I have been stock pilling a bunch of this film for my trip to Paris this year.
