For the Internal Market, Sales to The End of The Year Should Stabilize. The Last Tri-Mester Accounted For Almost Half of The Annual Sales of The Product.
BRAZILIAN SPARKLING WINE EXPORTS iNCREASES 36.6%
The exportation of Brazilian sparkling wine represented an increase of 36.6% from January to October this year(2016) in relation to the same period in 2015. 153.3 thousand litros of the drink were exported to foreign markets. In value the performance increased by 48.7%, reaching US$636.7 thousand dollars. The United Kingdom, United States, and Parguay are the principal destinations of the product. The internal market, due to factors such as crop failure and a stagnant economy represented a 11.6% retraction in sales of 11.4 million liters. However, the commercial performance of 2016 in this category represented a high 8.2% in relation to the accumulated average of the past five years. The last tri-mester that concentrated 49.5% of annual sales of the product, should represent stability in this sector.
The president of the Brazilian Institute of Wine (Ibravin), Dirceu Scottá, analyzes the scenario of sales of sparkling wines on two fronts. In the first, the leader highlights the increase in exports of the beverage to some of the target countries of the sector's project of the entity in partnership with the Brazilian Agency for the Promotion of Exports and Investments (Apex-Brazil), Wines of Brazil, which shows a sigh of relief for the recovery in the external market and consolidates the image of the country as a producer of sparkling wines of recognized quality and identity.
On the other hand, the fall in the domestic market is justified by the president due to the 57% crop failure, which increased production costs and the final price, and the economic crisis. "The wine sector is not devoid of the reality of the country and also suffers from the troubled moment we are going through." In exports, our vocation for sparkling wine and the great acceptance of the markets are increasingly visible, "he says.
Scottá also values the great number of prizes - from 2010 to 2015, more than 1,300 medals in international competitions for Brazilian sparklers -, the media publicity and the investments of the wineries in technology that have prioritized the elaboration of the drink for the increaSE of exports. In October, Decanter Magazine, one of the leading international publications in the segment, gave prominence to the yellow-green production, classifying the current stage of development of the sector as "historical and consistent."
Projections for the end of the year in sales are stable:
The president of Ibravin anticipates that sales at the end of the year will not repeat the growth recorded in recent years. However, the fact that a large part of the volume of sparkling wines sold in the last quarter may result in a final sales, results similar to that recorded in 2015. "Sales during this period are usually larger in volume due to the end of the year holidays, which can help in this recovery of sales until October," he projects. For the purpose of comparison, in the whole of last year, 18.8 million liters of the product were marketed, with 9.28 million liters being made only in the last quarter.
Ibravin's vice president and president of the Federation of Cooperatives of Rio Grande do Sul (Fecovinho), Oscar Ló, also believes in a recovery in sales of sparkling wines in the last two months. The leader sees with optimism the market for the drink, despite the retraction registered until the month of October. "All segments showed a drop in sales, including sparkling wines and grape juice. Even so, we believe in a small growth for the category and we hope to have a good harvest so we can better equalize production costs with the price on the gondola”, he explains.
