As part of my current challenge, I’m taking a moment to introduce myself and share more about my journey with the business. Many of you may know Prestigious Shoe Care and Accessories (PSCA), which began in October 2021. Unlike my previous ventures, this was the first business I started without a formal business plan—it was a leap of faith to “just give it a shot.” Surprisingly, it’s become my most successful venture so far. Being in the military, I initially started selling shoe polish due to a shortage in the market. After many requests to local stores to stock the product (a daily necessity for military personnel), I decided to bring it in and resell it myself. And just like that, PSCA was born!
My Biggest Challenge as a Bahamian Entrepreneur were the obstacles I never saw coming. With experience in multiple ventures, I thought I had a solid handle on things. But as PSCA grew and we moved into local retail, the real work began. Pricing, logistics, distribution, marketing, balancing supply and demand, importing, sourcing—it was a whole new level of effort and complexity. Meeting different wholesale requirements to form partnerships was rewarding but also stretched us significantly. This journey has made me grateful and has given me an in-depth understanding of running a business at a much more advanced level. It’s pushed us to become more organized and professional in ways we hadn’t been before.
My Key Lessons from the Bahamian Men in Business Blueprint Course was learning to engage with customers and collecting their feedback. Also, learning to build a team that can operate the business independently has also been a key insight—shifting my mindset from just being an Entrepreneur to becoming a Business Owner.
Through is all, I’m incredibly thankful for the support of my family, who help keep things running when I can’t be there. Their assistance lightens the load and keeps the business on track. And to our customers, thank you for being part of our journey. We wouldn’t be here without your business!
