Among the innovations turning heads at the Debswana World Athletics Relays Gaborone 2026 is the Uni -One, a futuristic mobility device now playing a key role in the event’s live broadcast.

Deployed on the infield of the National Stadium, the Uni One is part of the 21-camera network feeding the Outside Broadcast (OB) Trucks for global television coverage.

The device enables smooth, high-definition footage capture while moving at speed alongside athletes offering viewers dynamic track-level angles previously hard to achieve.

Developed by Chinese engineers, the Uni One is a robotics mash-up of a Segway, electric wheelchair, and next-generation transport vehicle.

It combines stability, agility and silent electric propulsion allowing camera operators to glide across the infield without disrupting competition.

Mounted with broadcast-grade camera rigs, the unit delivers stable 4K/HD images even while tracking sprints and relay exchanges at close range.

Beyond athletics, the deployment showcases how global technology partnerships can enhance capacity to host major events.

The Uni One’s use in Gaborone marks one of its first appearances at a World Athletics competition and signals Botswana’s intent to pair sport with mobility ( transport innovation).
