World Environment Day 2026 Webinar

Today, the Botswana Green Building Council is presenting on:
Embedding Green Building Standards into Botswana’s Public Procurement System: A Pathway to a Scalable Green Economy

The presentation explores how sustainable procurement can be used as a strategic tool to drive climate action, improve infrastructure performance, stimulate green markets, and support Botswana’s transition towards a resilient and inclusive green economy.

Key discussion areas include:
- Sustainable Public Procurement & the Green Economy
- Eco-Labelling and Green Building Standards
- Built Environment Performance Standards
- ESG Integration and Policy Reform
- Accountability, Transparency and Market Transformation

As Botswana continues to invest in housing, infrastructure, and public services, an important question emerges:
- Should public procurement prioritise the lowest cost, or the best long-term value for people, the economy, and the environment?
We would love to hear your views:
1. What green building requirements should be mandatory in public projects?
2 How can procurement help create demand for sustainable local products and services?
3. What role should standards and certification play in government procurement?
4. How can Botswana balance affordability, sustainability, and climate resilience?

Share your thoughts in the comments and join the conversation.

The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Botswana Green Building Council and the Architects Association of Botswana marks a shared commitment towards advancing sustainable architecture, climate-responsive design, and green building practices in Botswana.

Together, we want to ensure that energy efficiency becomes fully integrated into Botswana’s National Building Code, creating buildings that are not only efficient and resilient, but also healthier, future-ready, and aligned with national sustainability ambitions. By strengthening collaboration between industry stakeholders, policymakers, and built environment professionals, we aim to support the development of standards and practices that promote long-term environmental performance, occupant wellbeing, and resource efficiency across Botswana’s building sector.

Through collaboration, professional capacity building, and industry leadership, we can help shape a built environment that works better for both people and the planet.
