The Botswana Trade Commission (BOTC), in collaboration with the Botswana Unified Revenue Service (BURS), conducted a two-day onboarding training on 13 -14 August 2026 for the Customs Officials and registered Clearing Agents on the new Online Permit Management System (OPMS).
The training sensitized participants on the OPMS and its services, which will transition the current manual processing of permits and rebate certificates to an automated platform. This represents an important milestone in Botswanaโs digital transformation agenda and is expected to enhance efficient and effective service delivery in the facilitation of international trade.
Participants were introduced to the new system-generated rebate certificates, including their distinctive features and the mechanisms for validating their authencity. Clearing Agents were also encouraged to register on the OPMS and familiarize themselves with the system ahead of its implementation.
The training brought together 101 Customs Officials and 74 Clearing Agents, from various ports of entry and regional offices across the country.
This initiative strengthens further collaboration and operational alignment between BOTC and BURS, given the complementary roles of the two institutions in facilitating efficient and seamless trade.
